Patagonia Photosafaris is a company dedicated to organizing photo expeditions
in Patagonia. The idea emerged from a desire to offer a comprehensive service of
the highest quality for all photo enthusiasts, whether beginners, amateurs, fanatics
or professional photographers, and regardless of whether they belong to the digital
age or are more into the traditional school of photography.
We specialize in navigating through the Strait of Magellan and into the fjords
and channels of Tierra del Fuego where is the seldom visited Alberto de Agostini
National Park. We’ve been hiking the mythical Torres del Paine National Park for
over twenty years, always exploring new destinations in the area to share with our
visitors on future expeditions.
Through our work as tourism editors in this part of the world, we have become
well-acquainted with a considerably large area of these lands. This knowledge, coupled with the experience and professionalism of a team who are passionate
about photography and travelling, allows us to offer you a variety of products with
a very special character.

We’d love to have you join us on our excursions to
discover this untamed geography, exactly as Ferdinand
Magellan found it almost 500 years ago, when he was the
rst european to explore it.
We hope to show you the least-known face of Patagonia,
one which still preserves pristine landscapes of the kind
you’ll never forget. All you need to bring with you, besides your camera and your
passion for this art, is a desire to discover new places, a spirit for adventure, good
humour in the face of the unexpected, respect towards nature and animals, and
the soul of an explorer.
We look forward to having you with us!

At Patagonia Photosafaris, we have formed an alliance with
Expedición FitzRoy, a shipping company owning the M/N Forrest, a
cruise boat which is especially prepared to sail through these seas, in
order to offer an expedition cruise for photographers. We have also
joined up with Nómadas Outdoor Services, experts in expedition
logistics and organisers of the Patagonia Expedition Race, one of
the toughest adventure races in the world. This alliance will allow us,
among other things, to provide our guests with a oat of sea kayaks
and logistic support to go in search of the most fascinating nature
destinations in the region.

“… I had the opportunity to participate in the rst
expedition and it was incredible. The atmosphere created
on board was extraordinary, all of us focussed on one sole
thing: enjoying nature. The places we visited were unique,
off the typical beaten tourist track, and professionally
guided to perfection. Those of us who participated onthis trip had the chance to share and learn from great
photographers, who had the grandeur and generosity
to share many of their experiences. I would denitely
recommend it, I would do it again.”

Patagonia… that magic, enchanting
word which evokes a herd of wild
horses galloping freely across
boundless steppes. The Patagonia
of your imagination really does
exist - right here at the southern tip
of the Americas. Shared by Chile
and Argentina, it spans an area of
approximately 1.000.000 km² (385.000
sq miles) of expansive lands on either
side of the Andes, the longest mountain
chain in the world. We will concentrate
on the most remote part of this territory, the southernmost
Patagonia, the
very wildest.
Scarcely populated, southern Patagonia
consists of vast, never-ending steppes,
where in sparsely scattered estancias
are raised sheep for wool and meat
production as well as cattle and horses.
Closer to the mountains, you’ll nd many
forests and immense lakes. Enormousglaciers cascade down from the towering
peaks like frozen rivers, settling in the
great lakes by the eastern slopes, or in
the seascapes that bathe them to the
west.
Both countries have established an
important number of national parks to
preserve the environment and its wildlife.
A true paradise for any nature lover, and
especially for photographers, these wild,
untamed landscapes are perhapsamong the last remaining
on the planet, still barely
explored. The Great Southern
Ice Fields, for instance, are the
largest in the world after Antarctica and
Greenland, extending over 14,000 km²(5.400 sq miles). © 2 0 1 0 L u i s B e r t e a R .

There are many opportunities to
photograph well-known, yet untouchedlandscapes. Endless steppes, fjords
and channels with coasts densely
covered in temperate, almost
impenetrable forests. Great lakes and
crystal-clear rivers, huge mountains
with magnicent glaciers. This is hometo more than 100 bird species and 30
different kinds of mammals.
At the southern end of the world you
will also be able to enjoy spectacular
dawns and sunsets, with clouds tingedin oranges and reds, bizarrely-shaped
by the force of the southern winds.
But most importantly, you will be far
away from all populated or industrial
areas, in an absolutely pollution-free
environment of the purest skies. A
perfect backdrop for all amateurs
and professionals with a passion for
photography, who should not pass upthe chance to delight in the marvels of
this remote corner of the world at least
once in life.
We look forward to having you join
us here in the wild landscape of Patagonia, whether you choose
to embark on our sea expedition,
sailing through unknown fjords and
channels, or prefer travelling overland
to see some of the famous corners of
Patagonia, such as Torres del PaineNational Park in Chile or Los Glaciares
National Park in Argentina, along with
other places in Patagonia which are
virtually unexplored.
Welcome to the end of the planet,

Our expeditions are specially designed
for photographers of all levels, in small
groups which allow for a personalized
relationship. The programmes have
been structured to ensure you spend as
much time as possible on site, takingphotographs. The evenings are dedicated
to revising and commenting the pictures
taken during the day, as well as answering
queries on the use of editing software
such as PhotoShop, Lightroom and
Aperture among others.
Our itineraries
have been
organized by
photographers for
photographers, basedon our experience at the
different locations we
will visit. Our main
interest and concern is that you get that
photograph you are after, whether it is a
beautiful sunrise, a whale’s tail, a glacier
bathed in the magical afternoon light, or
an albatross in its nest. We want you to
take home an exceptional collection of photographs. That is our commitment:
that you enjoy a unique experience in
Patagonia.
We specialize in expeditions in the
Magellan Strait with its fjords andchannels, as well as Torres del
Paine National Park and other
virtually unknown spots such as
Sierra Baguales, a landscape
which would serve as a perfect
backdrop for a new Lord of the Rings
lm, a place hardly any visitors reach and
which is ideal for taking incredible pictures.
We have xed departures to the channels
and Torres del Paine National Park,
however we have the exibility to organize
special departures for small groups.

When I discovered this photographic cruise on the
Internet, it was amazing, like a sort of sign that I just
had to go, it was just what I was looking for, I needed tobreathe in that peace, that tranquillity, I literally needed
to be disconnected from the world.
The trip was amazing, the crew on board were
phenomenal; the guides, the talks, even the reference
books aboard the boat were very useful; the boat facilities
were impeccable; the food was great and very generous!
Also, the excursion times vs resting time were well balanced.
Overall, the freedom to watch, to experiment, to
photograph what interested each person! I loved that!
No pressure and no conditions. Not to mention the
landscapes – incredible! Thanks for giving me the
freedom to see the world in my own way and to be able to
capture it, humbly, in photographs! I really can’t wait to go back!!

Inspired by him and guided by his route...
We will climb aboard the M/N Forrest, a boat fully-equipped with everythingrequired for this kind of trip. This will be our home for the 8 days of the
photo expedition through the southern canals.
This will be an exploration in search of the most fascinating
natural destinations in the region.
We’ll sail through the mythical Magellan Strait, arriving at
the feet of the Darwin Range and Monte Sarmiento, at thecentre of the Alberto De Agostini National Park (14.600 km²).
We’ll navigate through fjords and canals visited by prominentsailors of the 16th and 19th centuries such as Magellan or Fitz
Roy, where we’ll admire gigantic glaciers descending from the
high peaks, surrounded by waterfalls and temperate nativeforests untouched by man. In this environment, we’ll have
“The Salesian priest Alberto María De Agostini , is considered the last great
explorer and the rst great promoter of the Patagonia. Between 1916 and 1943, he
travelled through Torres del Paine, the Ultima Esperanza mountain range, Tierra
del Fuego and the Darwin mountain range.
To him we owe important advances in knowledge of the geography of the Andes,
and a special recognition for making the natural beauties of the Patagonia and
its surroundings known to the rest of the world, thanks to the many books he
published showing the geography of this southern zone. He is alsoresponsible for the rst photographs and lm taken in the region, as
well as for the rst and only cinematic footage of the indigenous
people of the Patagonia, of whom he was a staunch defender”.

many opportunities to photograph certain ora species such as
the southern beech forests (nothofagus), the mythical Guaitecascypress or Blechnum ferns. We’ll also observe a variety of
mammals and birds, particularly humpback whales, sea lions, sea
elephants, Magellan penguins, wild geese, ibises and cormorants, among others.
During the land route, we’ll visit the Magdalena and Marta
Islands, a short distance away from Punta Arenas, where we’ll
see over 130 thousand penguins and a thousand sea lions. Inthe afternoon, we will have the privilege to visit a typical local
ranch which also has an observation point from which manycondors can be sighted. After arriving in Puerto Natales, we’llhead towards Torres del Paine National Park (2,422 km²), where
we’ll be lodging at various strategic points both inside and outsidethe park. In this area it is relatively easy to observe birds andmammals, and we’ll also enjoy breathtaking scenic views, with
pristine lakes that lie opposite the majestic Torres and Cuernos
del Paine. We will witness dawns of incomparable beauty and,weather-permitting, we’ll visit the ice oe cemetery on the shores
of Lake Grey, opposite the great Paine Grande. We’ll sail towardsthe Grey glacier and enjoy a close encounter with its eternal ice.
Short hikes to four strategic lookout points are also considered.
For the drive back to Puerto Natales we will take the new
motorway (Route Y-290) in order to stop for a visit at the MilodonCave Natural Monument (50km²). Back in Punta Arenas, we’llhead out towards the less-visited Pali Aike National Park, located
close to the frontier with Argentina, where there are numerousextinct volcanic cones. Sixteen days packed with excitement and
adventure, from which you’ll bring back thousands of images of our spectacular Patagonia. Our drive nishes up with a city tour
around Punta Arenas to visit some spots and viewpoints on theoutskirts of the city which are less visited by tourists. © 2 0

Magellan penguins, a colony of black-browed albatrosses anda small colony of sea elephants. We also visit the Francisco
Coloane Marine Park, where you have the chance to observe andphotograph a wide variety of wild animals and birds, particularly
the fur seals and the South American sea lions, petrels, skúas and of
course the impressive humpback whales.
With the support of Nómadas, we also organise kayak navigation
and special tailor-made programmes for small groups, whichaccording to the season and group interest can take place in
Torres del Paine National Park, on the island of Tierra del Fuego,
on Navarino Island, etc.
If you are interested in going on a photo expedition to any
particular area of Patagonia, please do not hesitate to ask. We are

this experience as “unforgettable”. On the one hand, the
common prole of the “nature photographer” inherent
to this type of expedition brings together people who
share a powerful admiration for nature, and due to this prole, they are able to create social bonds which are
deep and altruistic, and which create a unique, cathartic
sort of atmosphere during the trip. Personally, I do not
think I could ever forget this experience, the places we
visited are forever engraved in my mind… so not only
do I recommend it, but if possible, I will try to take part
in this expedition year after year (God willing). Thank you Luis, thank you Patagonia Photosafaris… and thank
you Forrest crew for the gift and the life experience we
acquired during those days.”
