How plants eat
Photosynthesis
What are the ingredients?
1.
Light energy
2.
Water
3.
Carbon dioxide
4.
Chlorophyll
The chlorophyll in the cell of the plant absorbs light from the sun.
The light energy splits the water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen.
Light energy Vs H2O H, O
CO2
The hydrogen joins with carbon dioxide to make sugar
CO2 + H Glucose
+H
O
= glucose
O
The sugar is carried to other parts of plant. The oxygen is release into the air.
Glucose
“Photo” means light.
“Synthesis” means combine.
“Photosynthesis” means combine with light.
Question
1. Green plants are producers, what does this mean?
Green plants are able to make their own food.
2. What does photosynthesis mean?
Combine with light
Question
3. What do plants take from the air?
Carbon dioxide.
4. Which part of the plant contains chlorophyll?
Leaves
Question
5. What do plants release into the air?
Oxygen.
6. What do plants get from photosynthesis process?
Sugar and oxygen
Photosynthesis Process
