    The story of Pandora

Several versions of Pandora's story have been set down. One starts off with the fire godPrometheus. Prometheus stole fire from the gods and gave it away to people. This greatly angered

Zeus, the ruler of the gods, and he planned to bring about something awful.

Zeus called on Hephaestus (Vulcan in Roman mythology), the god of fire and craftsmen, to get on

with creating a woman out of earth. Each god then chipped in something to her creation. Aphrodite, the goddess of love, handed over beauty. Apollo, the god of prophecy and music pitched in music,

and Hermes, the messenger god, built in to Pandora an ability to convince others she was right.

Pandora was set forth to Earth to hang out with Prometheus' brother, Epimetheus. When she turned

up, she came across another gift from the gods - a jar that each god had put something in. Pandorawas warned not to mess around with it or open it, but she could not keep away. As she took off the

lid to look into it, all the evils in the world flooded out. She quickly put back the lid, but it was too

late. Troubles had already begun to mess up the world. The only thing left in the jar was hope. Zeushad laid down the law that gods and humans should never mess with him.
