Can P.E. make you smarter?
• Physical Education in school enhances academic performance by increasing cerebral blood flow, enhancing arousal level, changing hormone secretion and improving self-esteem (Pediatric Exercise Science, 2001).
• Check out our P.E. website for more information about physical activity and academics as well as what your children have been learning.

Daily Warm Ups• Intermediate (3-5) gives explanation of
exercise• Primary (k-2) has letters and short
sentences• Connect students’ prior understanding
and experience new knowledge… “Sharpening the Saw” (NYS Standard 2.5)
• Engage students in development of multi-disciplinary skills such as communication, collaboration… “Synergy” (NYS Standard 3.5)

Daily Class Procedures
• Cues: i.e. Basketball Shooting Balance, Elbow In, Elevate, Follow Through
• Posters in gym and demonstration so students can see, hear and read cues
• Check for Understanding: What are two critical cues for shooting a basketball? (level 1 of Webb’s DOK)

• Invent A Game
