DISTANCE AND DISPLACEMENT
• Distance a measurement of the total path that an object travels – includes twists and turns – does not include a specified direction.
• Displacement a straight line measurement of the distance separating and object from where it started to where it finished – includes a specified direction.
• Scalar quantity a quantity such as ‘distance or time’ that has size but not a direction.
• Vector quantity a quantity, such as ‘displacement or velocity’ that has both size and direction.
Copy the diagrams then play the drag and drop
SPEED AND VELOCITY
• Speed = distance/time (scalar)
s = d/t
• Velocity = displacement/time (vector)
v = d/t
• Speed the rate of change of distance (scalar)
• Velocity the rate of change of displacement (vector)
• Reaction time the length of time it takes a driver to respond to a hazard/emergency
• Reaction distance the distance moved while reacting to a hazard/emergency
• Instantaneous speed the speed of an object at a particular time.
Read the paragraph then copy the topic and the conversion diagram
