The Chicago Blackhawks may start the postseason with a top-heavy No. 1 power play unit. Coach Joel Quenneville packedthe first power play grouping with the team's best offensiveplayers: forwards Marian Hossa, Patrick Sharp, Patrick Kane,Jonathan Toews and defenseman Brent Seabrook. The hopeis that it would jolt what finished as the 25th-ranked unit.

These guys combined for 27 of Chicago's 42 power-playgoals. The second group was led by forwards Andrew Shaw,

Andrew Brunette (foot) re-joined practice Monday and saidhe will be good to go for Thursday's first-round opener.Brunette missed the final three games of the regular seasonwith a foot injury. "Everything has been moving along prettygood and that extra week of rest really helped," Brunette

Steve Montador took a shot to the head from defensemanMark Fayne on Tuesday and is out once again with aconcussion. The hit was not on purpose but that does not do

Montador any good as he was returning from a 22 gameabsence in a return from an earlier concussion on Tuesday.Consider the defenseman, who was playing on the fourth line

Daniel Carcillo's recently signed two-year extension will givehim $825,000 per season. That's just a mild raise on the$775,000 the Blackhawks are paying him this season. A leftknee injury has limited Carcillo to 28 games in 2011-12, but

when he's healthy next season, he will provide the team witha physical presence and some secondary scoring.

Ben Smith will undergo season-ending surgery on Thursdayto fix a right hip labral tear and hernia. Smith will need 16weeks to recover so his season is over. He only played 13games for Chicago scoring a couple of goals and had 15 goalsand 31 points in 37 games for Rockford of the AHL before theinjury. He should be fine for the start of training camp in
