DECORATING THE PICKHURST ACADEMY CHRISTMAS TREE AT HAYES FREE CHURCH

Our seventeen strong team of school councillors decorated the Pickhurst Academy Christmas tree at Hayes Free Church on Wednesday 28th November

for their Festive of Light. The poem was written and all the decorations lovingly made by the Year 6 children.

Our first half term has been a busy one. All fourteen pupils are now settled well into either Saturn or Jupiter Class and have very quickly become part of the school. Relationships between pupils and their peers, as well as relationships with staff are forming well and many friendships have been made.

Both our classes have been very busy producing some wonderful work. The children are currently rehearsing for the Christmas Performances and are actively involved

in the dancing and singing.

Well Done !!

On Friday 16th November the girls’ football team played Trinity School in a game at Bromley Fc. As the 2 teams had drawn each other in the next round of the cup the game was played as a league and cup double header. The game started with Trinity having an early chance that should have seen them take the lead but with two of the opposition girls getting in each other’s way the chance was spurned. This seemed to spur Pickhurst into life and from that moment on Pickhurst dominated the remainder of the half. The second half saw the girls start very lively and they scored 2 early goals. The remainder of the half Pickhurst dominated the ball and added a further 2 goals to win the game by 4 goals to nil. This keeps the girls top of the league and through to the next round of the cup. Well Done On Thursday 22nd November we took a group of year 4 children to take part in the Bromley Schools mixed football competition. The team played 5 games, winning 2 loosing 2, and drawing 1. The team played some very good football, worked well as a team and the pupils were a credit to the School. Well done On Friday 23rd November the girls’ team played Hayes in a league game. The girls new a win would secure top spot and a chance to play in the champions’ league after Christmas. The game started very evenly with both Schools creating chances, however it was Pickhurst who went in a half time a goal up. The 2nd half was again very even but it was Pickhurst who doubled their advantage with a well worked goal. The remainder of the half saw Pickhurst defend extremely well to see the game out and become league champions without dropping a single point. Well done On Tuesday 27th November the boys’ football team played Tubbenden in the Bromley Schools cup. The boys started the game very well and took a 2-0 half time lead. In the 2nd half the boys knocked the ball around very confidently creating numerous chances. They added to their tally a further 4 times to win the game 6-0 and progress to the next round. Well done. On Thursday 29th November the boys and girls 6 a side team travelled to Bromley Fc to take part in the national league competition. The competitions were in a league format with the winners of each group going into a tri final. The boys played their 1st game against Scott Park and won the game 2-0. The girls 1st game was against Hayes and they also started really well winning the game by 2 goals to 0. The 2nd round of games saw the boy’s face St Mary's and although the boys dominated the game they couldn't get that elusive goal even hitting the post in the final seconds. The game ended 0-0. The girls 2nd game was against Chislehurst and they played some very good passing football winning the game 2-0. The 3rd round matches saw the boy’s face Warren Road and it was the opposition that took an early lead. The boys didn't let their heads drop and got a well-deserved equaliser to finish the game 1-1. The girls’ final group game was against St Marys. The girls took an early lead and saw the match out to win 1-0 and win the group. The boys’ final match was against Harris Crystal Palace the game was an early cup final as the team that was to emerge victorious would progress to the finals. The boys played with so much desire and determination, and it was midway through the half that a great passing move saw Pickhurst score the opening goal. Pickhurst controlled the 2nd half to win the game 1-0, and follow the girls into the finals. In the final the boys were up against a good Highfield team, the game was end to end with both goalkeepers making excellent saves. It was Pickhurst who took the lead with a well taken goal. The team saw the game out to win 1-0. The 2nd game saw Highfield beat Southborough 2-1. In our final game against Southborough Pickhurst would need a win or draw to become champions. The boys played extremely well against Southborough controlling large parts of the game and eventually going onto win the game 2-0. The boys were now champions of Bromley and will now go on to the southern finals next year with the winners playing at Wembley stadium. The girls were now in a tri final alongside Oak Lodge and Southborough. Oak Lodge played Southborough 1st beating those 3-0. Our game against Oak lodge was now a must win and the girls didn't disappoint winning the game 2-0. The girls were now in a similar situation to the boys knowing a win or a draw would in their final game would see them also champions. In the game against Southborough the girls played excellently winning 1-0. It was a fantastic day for both teams who now both go to the southern area finals with a chance of getting to Wembley. Well done to all the children that have taken part.
