2015 Boys All State Super Team Bios for Super Team players are written by their coach

12 Nick Carlson Hamilton Kevin Arnold

Nick Carlson finished up his stellar High School career with arguably on the best seasons in Michigan. He was medalist in every event he played in except for one. He won the District, Regional, and State Championship with a Michigan scoring record of 10 under par 134. Along the way he set many tournament records including a 62 at his home Hamilton Invitational as a sophomore. He was twice a State Champion, twice State Runner-up, 4-time Regional Champion, and 3-time District Champion over his storied career. It was a great career at Hamilton and now he is off to the University of Michigan to continue his playing career!

12 Dylan Deogun Cranbrook-Kingswood John Minnich

Dylan was a 4-time All-State Selection while competing at Cranbrook. In 2015, as the captain of the Cranes squad, he provided an outstanding role model for the younger players in the Cranbrook golf program. Dylan averaged 73.54 strokes in eleven 18-hole tournaments this spring, consistently finishing in the top 10. He was the medalist at both the Oakland County Championship (73-1st/119) and the Division 2-10 Regional (70-1st/65). At the Division 2 State Tournament he was runner-up with rounds of 69 and 72 for a two day total of 141. Dylan has carried this strong play into his summer tournament schedule. He posted a four round total of 292 at the Michigan Open earning a top-25 finish. At the prestigious Western Junior Championship his four round total of 282 earned him 3rd place honors. Dylan will be playing golf at Mercer University in Georgia this fall and should make an immediate impact in their lineup. They are gaining an excellent player, but more importantly they are getting a fine young man. Dylan will be greatly missed at Cranbrook next season; you cannot easily replace an individual of his all-around quality.

12 Spencer Hackert Ludington Andrew Wood

Spencer moved back home to Ludington after spending his first three years of high school in Kentucky. He immediately became one of the leaders on the team with his consistent play and ability to help his teammates improve. Spencer led the Orioles to a first place finish in the Lakes 8 Conference, taking first place individually in four out of five events on his way to becoming the Conference Medalist. In 11 tournaments this year, he finished in the top 5 seven times. Spencer shot a 1-under 72 at Oceana Golf Club in the district tournament, 1-under 71 at Katke Golf Course in the regional tournament, and even par 72-72 at Forest Akers West in the state tournament. He earned medalist honors at all three events and led his team to first place finishes at the district and regional tournaments and a runner-up finish at the state tournament. Spencer was also named the Muskegon Chronicle Male Golfer of the Year. His maturity, confidence, and approach to the game set the tone for a very memorable year for the Ludington Orioles, and those same attributes will help him have a successful college career at division II Cedarville University in Ohio

10 James Piot Detroit Catholic Central Mike Anderson

James had another great season for the Shamrocks. During his sophomore season he won 3 individual titles: Red Run (70), Southern Swing (68), and Districts (70). James finished the season with 3 wins, 7 top 5 finishes and 8 top 10 finishes. He finished the year very strong as he led the way for Detroit Catholic Central with a win at Districts, a 3rd place finish at Regionals, and a top 10 finish at the MHSAA Division 1 State Finals. In addition, he helped his team win the State Championship. James ended his sophomore season with a tournament scoring average of 72.54.

10 Ben Smith Detroit Catholic Central Mike Anderson

Ben had a fantastic sophomore season. He got off to a great start by winning the UofD Invite at the Detroit Golf Club with a score of 70. He also won events at Wyngate (68), MSU Forest Akers East (67), and Muskegon Mona Shores (72). Ben finished the season with 8 top 5 finishes and 9 top 10 finishes in 13 tournaments. 12 Joel Sneed Leland Jeremy Peplinski

Joel Sneed had another excellent season. He was a repeat division 4 state champion. He is also a repeat super team member. Joel was runner up at our District Tournament at the Grand Traverse Resort (Wolverine). He was medalist at our Regional held at Mistwood Golf Club. Joel is on scholarship to Nebraska where he is continuing his golf career. It was a complete privilege to coach Joel over the past two seasons. He is very intelligent young man and a true example of how hard work and persistence has and will pay off.

12 Donnie Trosper Canton Tom Alles

Donnie completed an outstanding high school golf career by placing second overall and leading Canton to a third place finish at the 2015 Division I State Finals at Katke G.C at Ferris State University. Donnie shot 67-77 at the state finals and finished his senior year with an eighteen hole average of 71.1. Donnie earned medalist honors at our regional held at Dearborn C.C. with an even par 72. He shot his low round of the year 63 at Birmingham C.C. to lead his team to a first place finish in the SunTel Invitational. Donnie also took medalist honors at the Farmington Invitational with a one under 70 and again at the M&M Invitational where he shot 3 under par 68. This season Donnie was dual match medalist twice out of the four matches he played in. His nine hole average was 36. During his four year high school career Donnie played in 24 nine hole dual matches and was the medalist in fifteen of those matches. Donnie competed in the Division I State finals as a member of his team or as an individual all four years of his high school career. He was selected First Team All-State four years in a row. He also earned First Team All-Observer Eccentric Newspapers four years running. He was also selected to the KLAA Kensington Conference All-Conference team three years in a row. In 2014 Donnie was honored by The Golf Association of Michigan as their GAM Junior Boys Player of the Year. Donnie is truly an exceptional talent. His game has no weaknesses. When he plays in competition he expects to win every time. He is, without question, the most accomplished golfer I have had the honor of coaching in my 21 years as head coach of the Canton High School Golf Team. Next year Donnie will play golf for the University of Central Florida.

11 Andrew Walker Battle Creek Lakeview Tony Evans

As a junior co-captain this year Andrew led by example in the classroom and on the course. In the classroom Andrew maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA while taking classes at the Battle Creek Math and Science Center. On the course Andrew played in all fifteen of our eighteen hole events and all four of our nine hole jamborees this season. His eighteen hole scoring average was a 72.8 while he carded a nine hole average of 36.2. Andrew finished in the top 10 in all of our events this spring. He was medalist or co-medalist 5 times. The Gull Lake Inv., All-City Inv., SMAC Conference Championship, Regionals, and the Div. I State Finals. He had 10 par or better rounds this year with 3 under par rounds. Andrew put the team on his back down the stretch and helped lead the team to a Regional Title at the challenging Grand Haven Golf Course and recorded rounds of 70 and 72 to finish two under par at the Div. I State Finals to not only claim individual honors but to help his team make up fourteen strokes to move from 7th place after day one to finish as State Runners-up. Andrew is not only a great player and a great student he is an awesome young man. He is extremely humble and always willing to put his teammates and others before himself. Andrew sets a good example for our younger players with not only his play on the course, but with his attitude and etiquette as well. Andrew becomes the 4th Individual state champion in Lakeview history and after competing for Lakeview next spring he will continue to be a Spartan as he takes his golf game to Michigan State University.

She also is a straight “A” student who was named to the Saginaw Valley All-Academic Team the last two years.

12 Katie Chipman Plymouth Dan Young Katie was a big part of 2 State Championships, 4 Regionals, 2 KLAA Association, 3 KLAA Conference and 4 KLAA South Division Championships at Plymouth High School. 11 Nichole Cox Glen Lake Paul Christiansen Nichole had an outstanding junior year representing Glen Lake High School. She capped off her season by winning the MHSAA Division IV State Championship on the Forest Akers East Course. Her two-day total of 150 (76-74) was the lowest score of any of the four divisions. This was Nichole’s 2nd State Title as she was defending her victory in 2014 at Grand Valley State University. In the 2013 Division IV Finals as a freshman, she earned a 3rd place finish. Nichole won 8 of her 10 eighteen hole events this season with a scoring average of 74.4. She had an average of 36 for her 9 hole events. Nichole began the season with an impressive victory in the 2-day Traverse City Central Lober Classic at Grand Traverse Resort. She then built on this for the rest of the season. There were highlights aplenty this year. Nichole set school and personal records in scoring a 33 for nine holes, a 69 for eighteen holes and recorded her first hole-in-one at the Katke Golf Course in the Big Rapids Invitational. She was the Regional medalist for the third year in a row. While Nichole was enjoying individual success she also was a great teammate. The rest of the Laker team was comprised of six novices. She mentored, supported and led her team by example. Coach Christiansen said, “It would have been easy for Nichole to just be wrapped up in her own game and successes, but she continually gave positive support for her teammates. I was impressed.” Leading up to the regular season Nichole had a great summer of golf. She was runner-up in the GAM Jr. Invitational, she advanced to the sweet sixteen in the GAM Women’s Amateur and she also finished 11th in the Women’s Western National Junior Championship. Nichole is a member of the National Honor Society. Along with her success in the golf course she can be proud of her success in the classroom.

11 Julia Dean Brighton Paul Parsell Julia Dean has had an amazing first year as a junior for the Brighton Bulldogs. She has an exceptional talent that matches her great drive and dedication for the game of golf. She was the medalist in six out of the eight invitationals that the team participated in this year, while giving outstanding performances in the other two by placing third and runner up. At her first high school invite, she started her career off with a phenomenal 68, tying the school record. She then went on to shoot a remarkable 69 at both the Holt Invite and the Lady Maverick Invite. Shooting par or below happened five times throughout her season. She finished with a 72.9 average and a dual match average of 37.2 for the year. Julia also helped lead her team to a first place victory at Regionals where she was the medalist with a 71, shooting even par. On day one of the Division I State Championship, Julia was down five strokes. But with her focus, dedication, and sheer determination, she scored a 73 on day two to close the gap for the win. Collecting All Conference honors, All-County First Team, and County Player of the Year, top off an already extraordinary golf season, Julia was the first golfer in Brighton history to capture the medalist honors at the Division I State Championship. Being medalist in 16 out of the 18 events that she played in this year, there is no doubt that Julia set some individual records in her very first year as a high school athlete. Although she is only a junior, Julia has verbally committed to play golf at Baylor University once she graduates. She will continue dedicating her time to study the sport and will do what is necessary to improve each skill of her game to remain one of the top golfers in the state of Michigan.

11 Veronica Haque Rochester Jeff Haney Veronica is a 3-year varsity player and a 2-year captain at Rochester High. She had outstanding freshmen and sophomore seasons, but came out her junior year determined to be even better. She had an outstanding dual-match scoring average this season of 34.6 and took medalist honors 4 times. Veronica's tournament average of 74.4 was also impressive combined with the fact that she not only won 3 tournaments, but was runner-up 3 times as well. In all, she never finished outside of the top-5 in any tournament she played this season. Veronica also finished T-3rd at the Davison Regional with a score of 74 and a T-5th at the D-1 State Finals with a two-day score of 160 (80-80), her 2nd

12

consecutive top-5 State Finals finish. Veronica has been named All-League 3 times, All-Oakland County 3 times, All-State as a freshmen, and All-State Super Team as a sophomore and now as a junior. She helped lead our team to a tremendous season which included 7 tournament wins, an OAA League Championship, a Regional Championship, and a Runner-Up State Finals finish. Prior to this past high school season, Veronica was named Golfweek Junior’s 2015 Midwest Player of the Year as well as being one of only 5 Americans invited to play in the Orange Bowl at the Biltmore this coming December. Besides being a great player, Veronica is also a great role-model for our younger players by the example she sets through her work ethic, competitive spirit, and outstanding work in the classroom. We could not be more proud of the person she is and the things she has accomplished in her high school golf career at Rochester High.

11 Lauren Ingle Stoney Creek Tony Lafferty

Lauren is an amazing golfer and an even better teammate; her focus, determination, work ethic, and humor set a fantastic example for the rest of the team. She continually inspires others to improve and her willingness to help her fellow teammates is a quality that truly sets her apart from her peers. She is our team’s most impressive and consistent player and has been for some time. Her impressive 2015 campaign began with her being named team captain and winning the first three tournaments of the season. Throughout the season, she had five additional 2nd place finishes and culminated her season with her first-place finish at the regional tournament, qualifying her for the MHSAA Division I state tournament. At the Meadows at Grand Valley State University, Lauren shot 82-76 to finish tied for 3rd place overall in the individual competition. Lauren’s play has consistently improved every year, bringing her scoring average down to 74.5 this season. A junior, Lauren is looking forward to returning for her senior season next year!

11 Anna Kramer Spring Lake George Bitner/Dan Knue Anna is a junior with Senior-leadership qualities. She set the tone

for practicing and her teammates followed by mirroring her practice routine. She was nicknamed the "Franchise" due to her ability to shoot steady scores, which if a girl had a bad round, they knew that her score would cover them. Anna's scoring average this past season was 76 for 18 holes. She led the Lady Lakers to a record 11th conference title in a row and 1st place finishes in 7 tournaments, including the Division 3 State Championship. Individually, Anna was exceptional. She was the medalist in 7 events this past season, including the Lakes 8 individual medalist with a 37-stroke average. Additionally her 2-day total of 154 at the Division 3 MHSAA State Finals at Forest Akers West earned her the title of Individual State Champion. Coach Bitner describes Anna as a fierce and focused competitor. The world could be caving in around her and she would be wondering which club to hit next. Anna is the steady anchor for our championship team.

11 Moyea Russell Lake Orion Monty Gallaher Moyea started the season red hot by shooting a tournament and course record of 4 under par at Lapeer CC in the Summer Tune Up tournament. This was her first win of the season and showed the rest of the field that Moyea was ready to play! She continued her excellent play by finishing in the top 5 of every tournament she played in during the season. She won three tournaments and placed 2nd in two other tourneys, including leading the state finals after day 1. But with all of these accomplishments she still had an even more impressive event to talk about. During mid-season, she shot another tournament and course record at one of the most prestigious events of the season, the Oakland County Championship, at Pontiac CC. Her score of 68 not only catapulted her into the "heisman" race, but it helped her team win the County Championship for the 2nd year in a row! With all of these great individual accomplishments.... perhaps the most impressive stat is how Moyea has helped her team in the winning process. Before she joined the team they finished dead last in the league and the county... but in only her first season the Dragons finished 10th in the state, in her sophomore campaign the Dragons finished as state runners up and in her junior season they finished 7th. This stat, helping her team win, is one of the most impressive stats any coach could hope for. People always talk about the most impressive players as having..."it"... and without question, Moyea Russell... has... "it"!
