Pierre-AlainCrosethasalonginternationalexperienceasaqualifiedarchitect,asanoriginalacademicresearcher,andasatalentededucator.Heiswell-knownasanexpertintheinternationalcommunityofarchitectsandurbanplanners,andhisreputationisfoundedonalongrecordofinterdisciplinaryachievement.Asanarchitect,herealizedinnovativebuildingsandprojects,especiallyinthefieldofHousing,Restoration,andUrbanDesignforhistoricalcitiesinItaly.Heparticipatedtomanycompetitionsinarchitectureandurbandesign,withsomeprizes,andhisarchitecturalworkhasbeenpublishedininternationaljournals.Asaneducator,CrosethasexperimentedinnovativeteachingmethodsinUniversitiesinSwitzerland,USA,Austria,France,ItalyandChina,assumingpositionsofleadershipinhighereducation.FromJanuary2015toDecember2017,hehasbeenProfessorandHeadoftheDepartmentofArchitectureatXi’anJiatong-LiverpoolUniversityinSuzhou,China.FromSeptember2018heisProfessorforArchitecturalandUrbanDesignatPolitecnicodiMilano.TheresearchactivityofPierre-AlainCrosetisdocumentedby240publications,mostlyassingleauthor,andrelatestodifferentfieldsofinterest.Afirstgroupofstudiesconcernthehistoryandthecriticalinterpretationofthecontemporaryarchitectureproduction,fromLeCorbusiertotheworkofsomeinternationalprotagonistsofthepost-warperiod(GinoValle,HermanHertzberger,OswaldMathiasUngers,AlvaroSiza,RafaelMoneo,AlbertoCampoBaeza,GuillermoVazquezConsuegra,LuigiSnozzi).Asecondgroupofstudiesconcernsometypicalphenomenaoflatemodernityinarchitectureandurbanism,withaspecialattentiontothechangesintherelationsbetweenurbanplanningandarchitecturaldesign,especiallyinsomeEuropeanbigcitiesasBerlin,Barcelona,ParisandTurin.Athirdgroupofstudiesisdirectlyrelatedtothepedagogyofthearchitecturaldesign.Throughhisintenseactivityasaninnovativeteacher,ProfessorCrosetreflectedcriticallyonthenecessitytoreformthetraditional“DesignStudio”intermsofmultidisciplinaryteamwork,andmovedrecentlyhisintereststowardsthetransformationsofthelargeAsianmetropolis,withacademicprojectsforMumbaipresentedattheBiennaleofarchitectureofVeneziain2006(FirstinternationalprizeoftheSchoolsofarchitecture),andforBeijing(WorldcongressoftheInternationalUnionofArchitects(UIA)inTurinin2008).ThisresearchinterestfortheurbanregenerationinChinahasbeenimplementedintheyear2014throughhisactiveparticipationtoanimportantresearchprogrammecarriedoutbyscholarsfromTsinghuaUniversityandPolitecnicodiTorino,dedicatedtothetangibleandintangibleheritageleftbyindustrialDanweiareasincontemporaryBeijing.OtherachievementsconcernhisactivityasanexpertincommissionsandjuriesforinternationalcompetitionsofarchitectureandurbandesigninEurope,andhisactivityofcuratorofexhibitionsforsomeprestigiousculturalinstitutionsinItaly,dedicatedtoimportantarchitectsasGinoValle(1989),AlvarAalto(1998),AlvaroSiza(1999),CarloScarpa(2000),CesareCattaneo(2012).Asanexpert,ProfessorCrosetisroutinelyinvitedforkeynotelecturesininternationalconferences,forthemoderationofroundtables,andforthepeer-reviewofessaysininternationaljournals.
