TQ mixes contain no fewer than three exclusive types of maize. The

There is also popcorn maize – a small, round type of maize that is quickly and easily ingested by

young pigeons. Orange Gritz maize has not long been

used in pigeon mixes but has already become a

need for animal protein thanks to the addition of whey powder. Pigeons use animal

protein more readily because it is absorbed into their body more quickly than

proteins from pulses. This rapid absorption boosts their recovery after a flight.

Pigeon feed consists mainly of grains and seeds, which are naturally low in

the essential amino acid lysine. For optimum development, growth, muscle

building and maintenance, it is important that amino acids are present within

a certain ratio. If there is not enough of any one amino acid, then this will limit

growth and development. Some of the nutrients will leave the body unused. The

addition of extra methionine and lysine to our pellets ensures a good ratio of amino

acids and encourages better utilisation of the dietary protein in the grains and seeds.

We have been crowned 2nd Olympiad Pigeon (Yearlings) in the sport category. And we will head to Brussels with this pigeon.

Ad SchaerlaeckensVirtually all the major titles were won, as in previous years, both in Noyon and in Middle Distance with juniors and seniors. Hardly surprising if you look at the percentage of prizes. Week after week. Truly amazing.

HOW?

How can you achieve such impressive results? Outstanding pigeons, perfect care – but this is of course entrusted to the companions – and a ‘balanced’ feed.

Teurlings and A S joined forces to create this feed. After a few tests at lofts such as that belonging to Klak, Teurlings’ A S mixes were launched: Teurlings A S Senior which could be given all year round to older pigeons, breeders and youngsters from the age of three months. And Teurlings A S Junior for young pigeons from the age of three months. The first mix created was ‘A S Junior’ because Ad had noticed back then how many people were wrongly feeding their young pigeons in particular. Mostly feeding a mix that was too heavy. The benefit of feeding the same mix all year round was also that it put less strain on the intestines (digestion), reducing the chances of an adenovirus outbreak. It became such a success that ‘A S Senior’ soon came on the market.

AND NOW

Many well-known names have since started giving the ‘A S mixes’. Because they trusted Teurlings, who for many years now have deemed only the very best grains to be good enough, and because they had faith in A S. There is also the fact that this feed has been blended scientifically and satisfies every need. FEEDING

In the quest for the ideal feed/care system we, like many other enthusiasts, sometimes try something new. This year we have fed the programme cock pigeons in troughs in the nesting box. Plenty of feed, i.e. 2 to 3 tablespoons per ration. The overnight pigeons are simply fed very generously (full trough) in a feeding trough on the ground. If necessary, additional feed is placed in the nesting box as preparation for a race. The pigeons are given the same mix all week. Of course, the mix is much lighter in April than in, say, June.

As supplements we use treat seeds, peanuts, Tovo, grit, picking blocks, Teurlings’ Bucket and minerals (so, nothing out of the ordinary). Once or twice a week the feed is moistened with some garlic oil, and brewer’s yeast is added. Every day the pigeons are given a mix of Teurlings’ Bucket, grit, picking block, minerals and stomach stone. On 1 or 2 days of the week the Teurlings’ Bottle is added to the water, as are Multivitamins on 1 day. In terms of feed, we only use feed from the Teurlings TQ line. The supplements, too, are sourced from Teurlings. A staple for us for years.
