Ski Trail Information Pinery's ski trails are rated using three levels of difficulty: Easy - generally flat and short. More Difficult - rolling terrain and longer. Most Difficult - steep terrain and longest. Words of Caution Skiing is an excellent form of exercise and a great way to explore the park, however you should be careful to always ski within your ability. Plan your outing to allow adequate time to complete the loop and return to your vehicle before dusk. Trail and weather conditions can change quickly so be prepared by carrying an emergency kit. It is recommended to advise someone about your trip itinerary and when you plan to return. Cellular phones cannot be relied upon for contact. We advise against travel on ice at any time. The Old Ausable Channel in Pinery is spring fed which can cause variable ice thickness. Ice that forms along the lakeshore is extremely treacherous and should be avoided. Ski in the indicated direction of travel and observe all signs. 2. Always step off the trail to the right when being passed by a faster skier. 3. Do not obstruct the trail. Move off the set track when taking a break; step off the track after getting up from a fall. 4. Yield to faster skiiers. 5. Do not litter. Pack-out what you take-in. 6. Do not ski after dusk. Do not begin a trail after 3 pm. 7. Remain on the marked trail. You may become lost if you leave the designated trail. 8. To minimize damage to set tracks, dogs, snowshoeing, walking, and sleighs or toboggans are not permitted on ski trails. 9. Camping is not permitted on ski trails. 10. Ski within your ability. Trails are not patrolled and you and your group should assess all risks and act responsibly to ensure your safety. 11. Use extra caution during icy conditions; be prepared for changing weather. 12. Yield trail to grooming equipment and staff. Pinery in Winter
Welcome. A camping or day-trip to Pinery in winter will reward you with experiences most summer visitors never have. On clear, cold winter days bright sunshine and crisp snow o�er countless opportunities to explore and enjoy the rolling dunes of the park. Whether you come for a family adventure or some solitude, the park o�ers many amenities for your visit.
Wildlife abounds in winter and their signs are often easy to �nd in snow. A variety of winter birds as well as both large and small mammals inhabit Pinery between autumn and spring.
Pinery o�ers 40 kilometers of ski trails, two packed walking trails, snowshoeing and many lookouts and picnic sites. The park is open year-round for camping and staying in a yurt and the Visitor Centre operates throughout the year to help you explore the park.
Winter outdoor activities can be very rewarding, but you must take extra precautions to prepare for your time outdoors. Please plan and prepare for your outings and read and carry this brochure with you at all times. Your safety in Pinery Provincial Park is ultimately your responsibility - be prepared. Winter Activities
Cross-Country Ski Trails.Pinery has �ve ski trails that vary in di�culty, length and the type of habitat they feature. When conditions allow, four of the trails are track-set for classic cross-country skiing, the �fth trail is groomed for skate-skiing. Please refer to the maps below for more information about ski trails.
Snowshoeing.You may snowshoe along walking trails or in other areas of the park but please avoid steep slopes and environmentally sensitive areas. Ungroomed roadways and trails o�er excellent opportunities for exploration on snowshoes.
Camping.Winter camping for tents and recreational trailers is available in Riverside Area 1. Sanitary disposal is available at the trailer station, water can be obtained at the comfort station in Riverside Area 1. Visit www.pinerypark.on.ca for more information.
Roofed Accommodation.Twelve yurts are located in Riverside Area 1. These tent-like structures are equipped with electric heat, lighting, tables and bunk-bed sleeping for six. Barbeques are located outside for cooking. Pets are not permitted in yurts.
Pets.Dogs are permitted in the park but must be kept on a leash at all times. Pets should not be left un-attended as the cold and unfamiliar settings may cause distress. Dogs are only permitted on the skate ski trail. Please do not walk dogs on any other ski trails as their footprints quickly destroy the tracks set on classical ski trails.
Reservations.Reservations are recommended for camping and yurts and may be made by calling 1-888-ONT-PARK (1-888-668-7275) between 7:00 am and 9:00 pm EST or by visiting www.ontarioparks.com. Reservations may be made up to �ve months in advance of your date of arrival.
Park Permits.A valid park permit must be purchased for all park use. The appropriate pass for your needs may be purchased at the main gate or park o�ce during business hours or via the Pay & Display station located beside the main gate building. Display your permit on your dashboard at all times while in the park. Seasonal and annual passes valid at all Provincial Parks may also be obtained at the adminstration o�ce or main gate building during business hours.Snowmobiles, All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV's) and horses are not permitted in the park at any time.
Pinery Visitor Centre
The Pinery Visitor Centre is open on weekends during the winter and daily during the Christmas and March breaks. The centre features an information counter sta�ed by park naturalists, exhibits and displays on local ecology and unique species, an indoor theatre, bird feeders, and a gift store. Large viewing windows, reference books, public washrooms and park information make the centre a natural launch point for all of your park adventures.
Park naturalists and the Friends of Pinery Park o�er guided programs and special events that highlight the unique ecological communities and species found within the park. Activity schedules are posted throughout the park as well as on the park website (www.pinerypark.on.ca). Further information about park services and amenities may be found on the park website and the Ontario Parks website (www.ontarioparks.com).

Emergencies
Being prepared for your outing and skiing within your ability will often prevent accidents. In the event that you require emergency assistance, please contact emergency services immediately.
Park Emergency Phones - picking up any emergency phone in the park will connect you to park personnel or emergency services. Please report your location and the nature of your emergency and remain on the line.
911 - dialing 911 from any payphone or cellular telephone will put you in contact with emergency services. Note that cellular coverage within the park is intermittent. Pinery's 911 Address is 9526 Lakeshore Road.
First Aid - First Aid kits are accessible at the rental building, Visitor Centre and other park o�ces.
If you become lost, stay on the trail and retrace your steps back towards the trail head. Do not leave the trail. If you �nd yourself lost o� trail, remain where you are and use a signalling device (whistle) to alert people to your situation.
