Simplify

Share
The Pioneers have highlighted that the existing technical and information
arena that we work within is complex and not always fit for purpose for an
integrated health and care system. The aim is therefore to work to simplify.
A key focus is design of approaches which can be adopted nationally. There is
very rarely one single approach but the intention of activity by Pioneers is to
develop approaches which can be adopted and used by others.
As a result, a key role for the Pioneer Informatics Network is encouraging
sharing and learning both across the Pioneer community as well as the health
and care community more broadly.

What are we collectively seeking to achieve? Person centred care enabled by digital, technology and information:
“I have the information, and support to use it, that I need to
make decisions and choices about my care and support.”
“I have information, and support to use it, that helps me manage
my condition(s).”
“I can see my health and care records at any time. I can decide
who to share them with. I can correct any mistakes in the
information.”
“Information is given to me at the right times. It is appropriate to
my condition and circumstances. It is provided in a way that I
can understand.”
“I am told about the other services that are available to someone
in my circumstances, including support organisations.”
“I am not left alone to make sense of information. I can
meet/phone/email a professional when I need to ask more
questions or discuss the options.”

Information Sharing: Work to Date
• National Summit held in February 2015 bringing together national organisations and
Pioneer sites;
• The Summit led to a number of actions (identified in the prospectus) which have been
taken forward over the last few months;
• This has included task and finish group work with four Pioneer sites – primarily has
focused on integrated digital care records / interoperability (work carried out with the IG
Alliance);
• Further work has now been commissioned around capitated budgets and a strategic
stock-take will take place in the next few months – now that we are 6 months on from
the Summit;

Information Sharing: Work to Date
Action 1 and 4:
Establish a task and finish group to work with
between 2-4 sites on implementing solutions
to the specific data use requirements:
Commission to ensure products developed
from the Summit are disseminated to
Pioneers and others
• Blueprints, templates and materials
produced – arising from the work with
Pioneers (mainly focused on IDCR);
• Framework produced to assist with
navigation of the different materials;
• Being finalised and intending to be
published in the next fortnight;
• Work commissioned on capitated budgets;
15
Information Sharing: Next Steps
There is an opportunity for Pioneers to engage in this work:
1. Feedback on the draft framework and materials when they are published – do
they support your work locally?
2. Attend regional events which will be organised with the Better Care Fund team –
to support with dissemination and use of materials;
3. Action 8: Engage in a workshop around ONS data (we are aware that some
localities are having issues around data access);
4. Action 9: Engage in task and finish group work on social care data (working
with NW London & South West);

Pioneer Feedback and Next Steps
We want to know from you:
1. Are the areas we have described tackling / co-designing / promoting the right areas i.e. will
this support your work locally?
2. How should we best be communicating with you and what information would support you
locally (i.e. Relay / face-to-face events)?
3. What further things should we be doing to promote and strengthen the Pioneer Informatics
Network?
And Finally:
• Please hold 21st January 2015 for the Pioneer Assembly in Kent – this will have a
digital and technology theme;
• Please sign-up for Pioneer Relay if you aren’t already receiving this -
• Please contact the leads identified in the prospectus if you want to find out more
information;
• We will be sending you a short survey for feedback on the webinar and on the
prospectus;
