A Message from the Principal It’s hard to believe that we’re almost ready for interims. As you know, we no longer print these since parents have access to ParentVue. Please log in on October 5 to check and see how your child is doing in his or her classes. This is a great monitoring tool for parents and teachers to ensure our Pioneers are on the right track. This can be a very proud time for parents and students, or it can cause a bit of angst if grades aren’t up to par. Interims shouldn’t be the only form of communication between the student, teacher, and parent. Seek feedback from your child. Here are some questions to ask your child before you contact his or her teacher(s).

Does the student seek help from the teacher when necessary?

Does the student track his or her grades throughout the quarter in order to set goals for end of the quarter grades?

Is the student turning in all assignments on time?

Does your child understand that he or she is accountable for their own learning?

As you review with your child his or her study habits and overall determination, help your child set realistic and attainable goals for the next reporting period. Work with the child’s teachers in order to create a closer partnership to ensure academic growth. I know that together, we’ll ensure your child succeeds in middle school!

STERLING MIDDLE SCHOOL Dear Parents, Sterling Middle School is hoping you can help us by donating at least one box of tissues to school. Tissues are not provided by the county so unless we can get donations we have to spend school funds that could better be used for educational purposes. Please consider helping us out and donating at least one box of tissues. Your child can turn them into their advisory teacher or drop them by the front office. Thanks for your help.

The Asbestos Management Plan

Sterling Middle School is routinely inspected in accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA). As required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and the EPA, this notification is to inform you that asbestos-containing material (ACM) is present in several locations in our school. The ACM is inspected semi-annually by qualified LCPS personnel to insure that the material remains in good condition and is not creating an exposure hazard for building occupants. The Asbestos Management Plan indicates locations where asbestos-containing materials may be present. The plan can be found in the administrative office at the school. In addition, a copy of the Asbestos Management Plan is located in the Loudoun County Public Schools Facilities Services Division office at 1002C Sycolin Road, Leesburg, Virginia. Please feel free to request information about our Management Plan, the inspection findings and our plan of action. The Plan will be available for your review and inspection during normal office hours.
