Pipeline
PROJECT SUMMARYThe Pacific Connector Gas Pipeline project is a proposed 235-mile, 36-inch diameter natural gas pipeline designed to transport natural gas to the Jordan Cove LNG terminal at the Port of Coos Bay, Oregon, crossing portions of Klamath, Jackson, Douglas, and Coos Counties. For 41% of its route (95.3 miles), the natural gas pipeline will be adjacent to existing power lines, roads, and other pipelines. The project will include a compressor station in Klamath County at the Malin Hub, where it connects with the Ruby and GTN pipelines.

SAFETY & ENGINEERINGAll facilities will be designed, constructed, tested, operated, and maintained to conform with or exceed Department of Transportation standards. The pipeline system will be equipped with automatic leak detection and shut off valves.
Impacts on select rivers and waterbodies, including the Haynes inlet, the Coos, Rogue, Klamath, and South Umpqua Rivers, the Kentuck Slough, Catching Slough, and Medford Aquaduct will be avoided or mitigated by using trenchless construction techniques such as boring, direct pipe, or horizontal directional drilling that go under and not through the waterbodies. Pipeline waterbody crossings would be temporary and localized.

RESTORATION OF THE PIPELINE ROUTESome timber that is removed from the right of way will be recycled and reused to create or improve instream or upland wildlife habitats. These materials will be stored on the edge of the right of way or in temporary extra work areas for later use during restoration efforts.
Reforestation and reclamation of impacted acreage will be conducted following Project procedures written in compliance with industry, state, and federal standards, and as set forth in landowner agreements.
EASEMENTSAn easement is a legal agreement between a landowner and the company that allows for the construction and operation of the pipeline. An easement agreement does not deed the land to Pacific Connector Gas Pipeline, but only grants the company access for the term of the agreement. At all times the landowner continues to have the right to cultivate, work, plow, harvest and use the land granted as they see fit within the easement so long as it does not conflict or interfere with the company’s surface or subsurface rights as stipulated in the right of way agreement.
During construction, the pipeline corridor easement is approximately 100’ wide. After construction is completed, the corridor is revegetated, leaving a final 50’ easement.
RIGHT OF WAY ACQUISITIONThe right of way acquisition process begins with the identification and notification of affected landowners using digitized maps and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software. Potentially affected landowners are then contacted so the company may request permission to conduct a survey of the area and inspect the right of way for the proposed route.
After the proposed route is confirmed, the Project’s land team then begins the negotiation process with the landowners, which at all times will remain fair and equitable. If the two parties come to mutually agreeable terms, including construction stipulations, legal documents and a financial offer letter are prepared and executed.
