It is October. Pip and his cousin stood on the bridge, looking at the stream, and the flowers that had started to

lose their petals.

Pip could hear the wind blowing the branches of the trees. Under his feet the fallen leaves made a

crunching noise as he walked.

What colour leaves can Pip see?

Just then Pip heard a ‘plop!’ It was a conker falling from a chestnut tree.

As Pip walked, he noticed some very large leaves against a wall. Over the last few weeks they had changed colour from green to red and orange.

Pip saw some bushes with tiny purple leaves. When he looked carefully he saw lots of red berries too.

Who would eat these berries?

Remember you must never eat them.

Above his head Pip could see a grey squirrel eating an acorn from an oak tree.

There were so many different changes in plants and trees for Pip to look at. He thought it would be

lovely to paint what he could see.

He could write a poem about the colours, sizes and shapes of all the leaves.

After a while Pip’s walk took him to the edge of a lake. He could see the reflection of the leaves in

the water.

All the little ducks started to swim near him, looking

for food.

Luckily Pip had brought some bread to give to the birds. Just then a beautiful white swan swam up to the edge of

the lake. Pip could see his wings and his orange beak.

It was 5 0’clock. It would be getting dark soon. Pip’s little legs were tired after all the walking, so he had a ride on his cousin’s

back.

Pip decided he really liked Autumn. What do you think?

Which months are in the season of autumn?
