MEDIA RELEASE 24 JANUARY 2018 PitchFork: the ASQ and Post Dining bring a new dish to the table this Adelaide Fringe Smashing up slabs of chocolate with mallets while the Australian String Quartet rip into a Shostakovich quartet. Pass the parcel and consume on cue to a soundtrack by The National’s Bryce Dessner. These are just a few of the visceral experiences the ASQ and award-winning food experience company Post Dining are serving up for their new show PitchFork this Adelaide Fringe Festival. The musical menu includes works by The National’s Bryce Dessner, Philip Glass, Ravel, Mendelssohn, Schubert and Shostakovich as well as homegrown composers Joe Chindamo and David Paterson, each matched with an engaging sensual experience. Taking place in the enchanting foyer of Adelaide’s Freemason’s Lodge, the ASQ and Post Dining invite the curious and curiouser along to this experience that is sure to get people talking. Scheduled across three nights in mad March, with only 40 places per performance, the hot ticket events (included as part of the Gluttony program), promise an intimate, immersive and delectable experience for its guests. PitchFork is part of the ASQ’s popular Close Quarters series, which reconsiders the way chamber music is presented. The concerts break down the barriers between audience and performer by taking place in unique and intimate spaces all around Australia, and fostering collaborations between artists, presenters and community groups. “We’re having a blast with Post Dining in the rehearsal room, conjuring a program that inspires not only the ears, but many of the senses.” Francesca Hiew – ASQ violin "Post Dining is excited to further develop and explore the relationships between food and music through our collaboration with the Australian String Quartet. BIOGRAPHY – AUSTRALIAN STRING QUARTET For over 30 years, the Australian String Quartet (ASQ) has created unforgettable string quartet performances for national and international audiences. Dedicated to musical excellence with a distinctly Australian flavour, the Quartet’s purpose is to create chemistry and amplify intimacy through experiences that connect people with string quartet music. From its home base at the University of Adelaide, Elder Conservatorium of Music, the ASQ reaches out across Australia and the world to engage people with an outstanding program of performances, workshops, commissions and education projects. The Quartet’s distinct sound is enhanced by a matched set of 18th century Guadagnini instruments, handcrafted by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini between c.1743 and 1784 in Turin and Piacenza, Italy. These precious instruments are on loan for the ASQ’s exclusive use through the generosity of UKARIA. Dale Barltrop plays a 1784 Guadagnini Violin, Turin Francesca Hiew plays a 1748-49 Guadagnini Violin, Piacenza Stephen King plays a 1783 Guadagnini Viola, Turin Blair Harris plays a c.1743 Guadagnini Violoncello, Piacenza, 'Ngeringa' *Blair Harris takes the place of ASQ cellist Sharon Grigoryan who is currently on Parental Leave.
