Monday night the beautiful home of Mrs. Clet Qirard was the scene of one of the most enjoy- able events of the season. The occasion was the anniversary of Mrs. Oirard's birthday at which she entertained the members of the Brooklyn Euche Club and their husbands and other guests at a Tacky Party. The «uests all came in old time eostnmes, many of which showed sharp contrasts with the latest Btylej. In fact it was a hard matter for the judges to decide the winner of the prizes given by the hostess for the tackiest costume. Danc- ing was the main interest of the evening and the schottishes and polkas of old days were inter- mingled with the waltzes, two- steps and tangos of the present. Tempting refreshments including a grand birthday cake were served from a beautiful decorated table. Mrs. Girard was the re- cipient of many pretty and use- ful presents from her friends and the Club. * LOCALS. * !«••••••••• —Owing to the crowded con- dition of our columns, we were compelled to omit from this weeks issue several articles which will appear in our next issue. Monday night the beautiful home of Mrs. Clet Qirard was the scene of one of the most enjoyable events of the season. Dancing was the main interest of the evening and the schottishes and polkas of old days were intermingled with the waltzes, two-steps and tangos of the present. Tempting refreshments including a grand birthday cake were served from a beautiful decorated table. Mrs. Girard was the recipient of many pretty and useful presents from her friends and the Club.

—In another column appears an article written by one of our progressive citizens, entitled "Get Together," and while we do not endorse its exact wording, in every particular, the intent is, however, for the betterment of the community, if we will but take lieed. Our people should work together in more unanimity if they wish this City to enjoy the prosperity that is due it, and we should all back every movement that is calculated to benefit the town. It is only by a united pull that we can accomplish anything and we sincerely hope 1914 will find all of our citizens standing together and encouraging every undertaking that will forge New Iberia to the front.

—This week will practically wind up the 1913 cane crop with possibly one exception that of the Orange Grove refinery at Olivier, whom we understand will not fii^yhi grinding until about the first of the year. The crop is said to be about 25 per cent short and with the smal) price paid per ton it is gratifying that our farmers had sudh delightful weather for harvesting, otherwise many would have fared very badly. The mill of M. A. Patout & Son, situated near Pa-toutville, so we understand, finished yesterday crushing near unto 42,000 tons; in 36 days they put through 36,000 tons without a single mishap to interfere with the mill.
