The Effect of Light Power On
The Evaporation
Rate of Coffee
PurposePurpose
•To measure the effect of additional energy from a light source on evaporation of coffee
•To measure the effect of additional energy from a light source on evaporation of coffee
Hypothesis:Hypothesis:•If a bulb of greater
power is used to warm coffee, then more of the coffee will evaporate.
•If a bulb of greater power is used to warm coffee, then more of the coffee will evaporate.
Evaporation EnergyEvaporation Energy
Evaporation is a change of phase from liquid to gas
Because the higher energy molecules leave, the process removes energy from the liquid

Evaporation EnergyEvaporation EnergyLight Bulbs are usually rated by their power consumption in Watts
Average household lights range in power from 45W to 150W.
Outdoor lights and heating lamps go up to 1200W.
Power is the electric energy consumed and leaves the bulb as heat and light.

ConclusionsConclusions
The brighter bulbs did have a greater evaporation rate
Keeping the coffee warmer seems to help more coffee evaporate
