Authentic, family-friendly, protected...Peisey-Vallandry also has all the charm and authenticity of a collection of villages at the gates of the Vanoise National Park, where the successive seasons are mar-ked by agricultural, artisanal and tourist activities (a scheduled resort since the mid-1930’s with the first ski lift being built in 1948 : the Lonzagne Chairlift draglift). Situated at an altitude of 1600 m, the resort is on the edge of a forest (comprising spruce and larch trees), sheltered from the prevailing winds, on the sunny Western slopes of the massif of les Arcs and provides a very extensive view over the Tarentaise Valley, the Beaufortain Massif, with an imposing view of Mont-Blanc as its focal point. Peisey-Vallandry is also an outstanding Nordic area at the gates of the Vanoise National Park, in a nature conservation area where the landscape opens up to reveal an amphi-theatre of glaciers from Mont-Pourri (3797 m) to the impressive and legendary North Face of the Bellecôte (3417 m).

HeritageIn the Peisey valley, which has been a tourist destination since the 1920’s, culture is what you find when you take off your skis for an après-ski exploration of a diversified heritage - agriculture, Baroque churches, the traditional and innovative architecture of the villages…
The seasonsThe agricultural activity, animal husbandry and cheese making are part of the local eco-nomy; it has not disappeared as a result of tourism, quite the contrary. There are about ten established farms in the valley. Some are ancient farms but there are also ultramodern installations set up very recently by and for young farmers.Farmers generally have more than one job – shepherds and ski patrols or ski instructors. They are on the pistes during the day and look after their animals early in the morning and late in the evening. Most of the production is Beaufort (AOC label), and Tomme.
The silver wedding of industryLes Monts d’Argent, that was the name of Peisey the eighteenth to the nineteenth century, affirming the importance of lead mines and money. During the first empire from 1802 to 1814, the French Ecole des Mines moved to Peisey. Providing valuable additional re-sources for the people, giving them some comfort, closing career in 1866 will accelerate the migration. Some Peiserots, with their industrial tradition depart for Paris, where they set up workshops for the manufacture of gilt bronze statuettes, they will have the oppor-tunity to admire at the Universal Exhibition of 1900.

The VernettesChapelAmidst the high alpine pastures (at an altitude of 1816m) in a mountain setting with an uninterrupted view of the peaks of the Aliet and Bellecôte, the sanctuary seems to emerge from nowhere.
Since the dawn of time, the inhabi-tants of the Peisey valley have been coming here to graze their herds and flocks and to water them at the healing source. In 1703, a resident of Peisey, Jean Baudin, came like so many sick people to seek a cure. Afflicted with a skin ailment, he decided, as a sign of his gratitude, to build an oratory de-dicated to Our Lady of Mercy, patron saint of lepers.
Such was the reputation of the source that the Peiserots decided to build a church and a hostel for the incumbent priest and the patients. Work started in 1722; the masons, sculptors and painters came from Valsésia in Upper Piedmont.
The main altarpiece (1738-1743). This is the work of the sculptor Joseph Marie Martel. The whole altarpiece is arranged around the theme of Our Lady of Mercy illustrated in particular by the escutcheon representing the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple or the aged Simeon tells the Virgin, «A sword will pierce your soul. »
A linked ski area !Eleven years ago, on the 20th December 2003, skiers boarded for the first time on the Vanoise Express (the world’s biggest cable car) to discover the 425km of pistes in the PARADISKI ski domain, linking the resorts of Les Arcs/Peisey-Vallandry and la Plagne. The second biggest ski domain in the world, PARADISKI is part of a group of very large interconnected domains.

Nordic area...The Nordic area offers a wide range of discoveries ans some real thrills. A the gate of the Vanoise national Parc, the landscape benefits from an extraordinary glacial amphitheatre where you are in contact with nature. The pistes are most-ly in the forest and criss-cross the Rosuel plateau and pass by the picturesque villages at the end of the valley.
43km of cross-country skiing (alternative and skating) criss-cross the plateau. The area is maintained daily and has circuits for all levels. An area for a variety of discoveries - 1 shooting stand approved for Biathlon.
A wealth of heritage - Notre Dame des Vernettes, Palais de la Mine.
Routes for snowshoes and walkers. Dog-sled and/or horse-drawn sled rides.

Vanoise national Parc
Created in 1963, the Vanoise National Park is located between the Isère Valley in the Tarentaise to the North and the Arc Valley and Maurienne to the South.
It is one of seven national parks in France. Along the frontier, it adjoins the Italian Gran Paradiso National Park, with which it has been twinned since 1972.Between the two of them; they make up a protected area of 1250 km, which makes it the most extensive in Western Europe.
Numerous species of wild and rare ani-mals have chosen to take refuge in this natural environment – mountain ibex, golden eagles and bearded vultures.

How to get to Peisey-VallandryPeisey-Vallandry is located in Savoie, in the Tarentaise Valley, in the heart of the PARADISKI massif, at a distance of 665 km from Paris, 200 km from Lyon, 110 km from Chambéry.
Direct access by Motorway A43 from CHAMBERY or GRENOBLE, then RN90 dual-carriageway Albertville - Moûtiers then LANDRY heading towards Bourg St Maurice.
Access via the Landry station (7 km) from Bourg Saint Maurice.
