Introduction to Hy-Ten

www.hy-ten.co.ukContact Information

Hy-Ten is a leading stockist and fabricator of concrete reinforcement bar,

mesh and accessories.

The company has a UK network of 9 manufacturing centres from which it

provides an innovative, rapid and cost effective service to building and

civil engineering contractors throughout the UK, Eire & the World.

Hy-Ten is the exclusive British Isles and UAE manufacturer and supplier of

Bamtec - concrete slab reinforcement that comes in a roll. The most

efficient concrete reinforcement system available, Bamtec reduces site

fixing costs by up to 75% and reduces tonnage requirements by up to 35%.

One of our most significant innovations is the HT Coupler - a friction

welded reinforcement coupler that is CArEs approved and offers

substantial benefits in terms of cost, quality and lead time.

The company also manufactures and distributes gabions and land

reinforcement, industrial welded mesh, security fencing, structural

steelwork, steel lintels and sheet piling.

The Hy-Ten Group is based at richmond, surrey, UK and currently has an

annual turnover of £75 million. The Group was founded in 1958 and

celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2008.

Introduction to Bamtec

www.hy-ten.co.ukContact Information

Bamtec is the most sophisticated slab reinforcement system available today and has already

helped to accelerate programmes and reduce costs on many sites throughout the British Isles and

worldwide.

Because the Bamtec system combines finite element analysis, integrated detailing software and

robotic manufacturing, it is the only system that can provide finite element curtailed prefabricated

reinforcement. This results in material savings of up to 35% compared to cut & bent reinforcement.

Bamtec carpets are delivered to site in lengths of up to 15 metres and roll out distances of up to

35 metres. The carpets are delivered pre slung to facilitate fast site off loading and movement and

once positioned are simply and easily rolled out, reducing fixing costs by up to 75% compared to

conventional loose bar.

The reinforcing bars within each carpet can be of varying diameters (from 8mm to 32 mm), varying

lengths and at varying centres to suit the slab design. This allows Bamtec to deal with variable load

requirements, non rectangular slabs, slab openings etc.

Design & Detailing

www.hy-ten.co.ukContact Information

Option 1: Utilising the engineer’s initial design model, Hy-Ten can undertake a full slab design

using our powerful finite element software (sofistik). Our software also automatically

details the reinforcement.

Once the design and detailing have been checked and approved, our software

produces schedules that are transferred electronically to one of our Bamtec

manufacturing robots.

The combination of powerful F.E.design, integrated detailing, fully automated carpet

manufacture plus the inclusion of our unique non-standard bar diameters (14,18,22mm)

means Hy-Ten can supply complex reinforcement configurations that give up to 35%

material savings over standardized cut and bent reinforcement. It also means fast,

cost efficient and accurate design and detailing.

Hy-Ten include the cost of design and detailing in the Bamtec cost / tonne. Accordingly,

utilizing this option allows engineers / customers to enjoy free design and detailing.

Option 2: Alternatively, where a full design has already been carried out, Hy-Ten's design office

can undertake a redesign of your flat slab requirements utilising the consulting

engineer's original loading specifications.

Our Bamtec redesigns are also up to 35% lighter than the cut and bent alternative.

Option 3: Hy-Ten can redetail the existing cut and bent configuration to suit Bamtec. This option

does not provide material savings, but does enable customers to benefit from the

speed with which Bamtec can be installed.

Manufacture

www.hy-ten.co.ukContact Information

Hy-Ten manufacture Bamtec at Bootle in liverpool, Wallingford in Oxfordshire and Dubai UAE.

In total Hy-Ten currently has 5 Bamtec manufacturing robots.

Operating both from coil and stock bar, the robots weld standard CArEs approved reinforcement

bars to continuous 1mm thick metal strips at 1.5 metre centres to produce the Bamtec carpets

that will be rolled out on site.

The Bamtec robots can weld any bar diameter required from 8mm to 32mm (including our unique

non-standard diameters - 14, 18, 22mm) and any bar length required from 1.7 metres to 15metres.

The bars within each carpet can be of varying diameter and length and at varying centres and

positions relative to one another.

Carpets can be of varying size (up to 15 metres wide and 30 metres long) and of varying weight

(up to 2 tonnes).

This versatility allows us to supply very complex and variable reinforcement configurations for a

multitude of construction applications in carpets that are quickly and easily rolled out on site.

Furthermore, the process is fully automated, the robots working to information transferred from our

sofistik design and detailing software, thereby ensuring that the bars are positioned in exactly the

configuration required by the engineer's design.

Installation Process

www.hy-ten.co.ukContact Information

The installation of Bamtec carpets is substantially quicker and requires fewer site personnel than

the fixing of traditional reinforcement, resulting in reduced fixing costs and shorter site programmes.

All the carpets arrive on site pre-slung for easy off loading and site movement.

Instead of the time consuming traditional method of positioning and tieing each individual

reinforcement bar, Bamtec carpets (incorporating bars already welded in the correct position

relative to eachother) are moved into starting position by crane and then simply rolled out. The

carpets do not need to be tied to one another.

Hy-Ten can provide couplers on column bars at soffit level. This means that columns are not an

obstruction to the rolling of carpets. This enables us to supply larger and fewer carpets, thereby

speeding up the installation process.

Hy-Ten design and produce shear rails which can be used in conjunction with Bamtec to further

improve the rate of construction. (ClICk HERE)

A typical time saving from the use of Bamtec in a concrete frame building is 3-5 days per floor.

To assist installation, Hy-Ten provide site personnel with a rollout plan and an overview plan.

The rollout plan shows the exact position and rollout direction of each carpet.

Furthermore, Hy-Ten's technical staff provide comprehensive on-site training to demonstrate to

customers' personnel how to best install Bamtec carpets to get the maximum benefit out of the

system's fast installation attributes.

You can also download guidance on the offloading and installing of Bamtec from our website
