  • From HOEDs Desk

It gives me immense pleasure in bringing the next edition of our department e-Magazine , with i mpor t ant e ve nt s and ach ie ve me nt s . One of the significant initiatives we took this semester is the introduction of Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs) for which we have established a local chapter with mentor teachers. I am happy to inform that about 120 students actively participated in this program. Amongst BE(E&TC) students, two have secured 1st and 9th u n i v e r s i t y r a n k s a t M a y 2 0 1 5 E x a m i n a t i o n . We had submitted R&D proposals worth Rs.15 lacs to various funding agencies. I am delighted with achievements such as Rubik's cube , eYantra, etc and congratulate and appreciate the team members for their contributions. My Appeal to all the parents is to encourage their wards to actively participate in all the initiatives of the department and groom their career. I wish everyone all the best for all future endeavors. -Dr. Y Ravinder Prof & HOED,PICT.

  • The Indo US Collaboration for Engi-neering Education (IUCEE) was founded with the help of the Ameri-can Society for Engineering Educa-tion (ASEE), Pan IIT (organization of IIT alumni), International Federation of Engineering Education Societies (IFEES) and Indian Society for Tech-nical Education (ISTE) with head-quarters at University of Massachu-setts Lowell (UML). It was conceptualized by over 150 leaders of engineering education and

businesses from US and India in 2007. Generous financial contributions and intellectual advice from Desh and Jaishree Deshpande, Sudha and Narayana Murthy, Arjun and Kiran Malhotra and in kind support from Infosys Technologies have helped initiate the program which is now on the way to becoming a success and financially sustainable. The vision of IUCEE is to improve the quality and global relevance of engineering education and research in India with focus on faculty development, student development, curriculum development, as well as improved teaching technologies & research Salient Features : Contacts with over 300 US Experts and their Institutions; short visits by US experts. Facilitation of collaborations with US colleges including MOUs, Centers of Excellence, twinning

programs, faculty and student exchanges, visits to US universities. Short workshops or courses for faculty and/or students by US experts travelling to India (Faculty Leadership Institute, FLI). Webinars and short courses on-line by US experts, Indian experts and Industry Leaders relevant for faculty and students on relevant topics conducted regularly. Advising by US faculty as Research Co-Guides for faculty pursuing PhDs. Opportunities for US faculty or Indian faculty from Member Institution to spend a semester or more at others college, collaborating in research and teaching. Advice in connecting with potential US colleges interested in twinning programs.

    Activities in current semester: A team of 4 staff members including Dr.R.C.Jaiswal ,Dr.M.V.Munot , Prof.P.T.Blessington &

Prof.H.S.Thakar along with members from other departments has been formed and is contributing actively for reaping the above benefits. Live webinar conducted by Prof.H.S.Thakar for TE ( E&TC ) students on Using LT-SPICE Tool ( Linear Technology Inc.) for circuit simulation dt. 11/03/2016 , 9:30 am 12:30 pm. A Virtual academy & related experiments for S.E.( E&TC ) students is being coordinated by Prof.P.T.Blessington. About 80 + Recorded Webinars on Multi-Disciplinary topics are available on SAN for downloading & viewing. Webinar Viewing URLs are regularly sent to all staff members as and when they are published by IUCEE.

ME (microwave ) 26 students of ME (microwave) visited Antenna application as radio astrophysics as (Radio Astrophysics centre) , Ooty, India for seven days from 8th March 2016. Faculty accompanying the students was Mr. R. Dhapatkar and the visit was Coordinated by Mr. S. V. Gaikwad and Mr. S.S. khot. The RAC is part of national center for radio astrophysics of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. It is in principle capable of detecting signals from 1 metre 1 watt radio station located 10 Million KM away in space. The Ooty Radio Telescope has been designed and fabricated fully indigenously. It is one of the most sensitive radio telescopes in the world . Observations using this telescope have led to important discoveries and used to explain various phenomena occurring in our solar system and its celestial bodies.

  • NPTEL is an acronym for National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning which is an initiative by seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roor-kee) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) for creating course contents in engineering and science. NPTEL provides E-learning through online Web and Video courses in Engineering, Science and humanities streams. From March, 2014, NPTEL has also been offering massive open online certification (MOOC) for its courses. The highlight being the certification exam through which the student gets an opportunity to earn a certificate from the IITs. Till now, more than 300 colleges all over India have established NPTEL Local Chapter in their colleges, which is enabling their students to learn the courses of their interest whether these courses are included in their university syllabus or not and in a deeper way. Through the examination and assignments, they can also evaluate themselves in a better manner. For each course, NPTEL uploads the videos week-wise of duration 1 to 2 hours, only, which can also be downloaded. College assigns the subject experts from their own college who act as a mentor for students taking up the course. Students can also clarify their doubts by consulting with assigned mentors or they can also send their question through emails to NPTEL. NPTEL also offers scholarship for fee payment for the examination. Moreover, the examination fee is nominal. In the competition, developed ro-bots compete to complete a task within a set period of time. Every year, the host country announces the arena for the competition based on a certain theme. Robocon 2016 ROBOCON 16 was held at Balewadi Pune during 3rd to 5th March 2016 .105 teams participated from all over India final Vadodara institute on technology Vadodara won the competition this year. ROBOCON is a theme based competition. Like every year the theme was very challenging given by Bangkok. The theme was "Clean Energy Recharging the world" where the teams had to transfer energy wirelessly to moving robot and among all participants only our PICT team could do wireless charging successfully and the robots that were developed by our students were appreciated by contest organisers and sponsors. Even though we did not achieve any rank in the above years we surely managed to learn and develop unmatched technologies. ROBOCON 16 was headed by Yash Rao with Anay Gokhale as the treasurer, wherein the theme demanded completion of a race and achieving Chai-Yo within minimum time. Deepak Patel was in charge of the electronics development while Pushkar Nimakar lead the coding team. External Support/Sponsors : For the 2016 year, Mindtree Ltd. and Turck Pvt.
