INTRODUCTION

The essential feature of Borderline Personality Disorder is a

pervasive pattern of instability of interpersonal relationships, self-

image, and affects, and marked impulsivity that begins by early

adulthood and is present in a variety of contexts (APA, 2000).

Individuals with BPD experience emotional ups and downs, and are

known to be unstable and especially angry.

REVIEW OF LITERATURE

Previous research suggests that BPD protocols contained more

Rorschach scores indicating separation conflicts, as compared with

other groups (Coonerty, 1986).

Literature also suggests a genuine deficit of response inhibition in

patients with BPD (Rentrop et al, 2008).

Studies reveal that the parents of individuals with BPD have been

described by offspring as negative; uncaring and over-controlling;

unempathetic (Fruzzetti, 2005; Johnson, 2006).

No Indian studies could be found on the dynamics and

neuropsychological correlates of Borderline Personality Disorder.

Since there is little work on given problem in India, it is important

shed light on the dynamics and neurocognitive correlates in

Borderline Personality Disorder in the Indian context, and thus the

present study intends to be conducted.
