OCTOBER 2015

meet ourNEW STAFF

I am thrilled to join Planned Parenthood Association of Utah as their new Strategic Advocacy & Policy Counsel. This position at Planned Parenthood is a perfect confluence of my training, skills and passion for human rights and reproductive rights. I wanted to use my talents and time to make a concrete difference for the women of Utah. Utah has been my home off and on since 1999, when I came to do my undergrad at BYU. I am childless by choice, and before I was married in the Salt Lake Temple, I went to Planned Parenthood to get affordable access to birth control. As a young, married law student I received free healthcare from Planned Parenthood, including well woman exams and cancer screenings. It is such an honor to stand with such a courageous organization.

Liz has accumulated a wealth of experience working with, and advocating for, marginalized individuals and groups with wide ranging and complex needs, including women of color, trans* youth, adults and their loved ones; refugees and others with insecure immigration status, individuals who have been trafficked, involved in the criminal justice system, involved in gangs and/or drugs, drug trafficking, sex-work and prostitution, and survivors of domestic and sexual violence, among many others. A native of Utah, Liz gained her degree in Sociology from Utah Valley University and then undertook her MA in the UK where she worked for five years before returning home to Utah. More recently Liz has held positions at the Utah Domestic Violence Coalition as Education & Training Coordinator and the Utah Pride Center as Transgender Program Coordinator. Liz also teaches cours-es at Utah Valley University, Salt Lake Community College and Westminster College.

OCTOBER 2015

Planned ParenthoodAction Council2015 EndorsedCandidatesThis year Planned Parenthood Action Council (PPAC)’s Political Action Committee invited municipal candidates from a few targeted cities to apply for an endorsement from PPAC in Election 2015. We are delighted to be in a position where both candidates in a few Salt Lake City races stand for reproductive justice and will stand up for you and me. As such, we are releasing our voter guide as a scorecard and endorsing all candidates that scored 100% on our survey.

what’s PPAC?Planned Parenthood Action Council of Utah is a political advocacy and public education organization advocating for reproductive justice in Utah. We’re non-partisan, non-profit, and the majority of our work is not related to electoral work — but our Political Action Committee allows us to support candidates who will fight for reproductive justice at city hall, on the hill, and in Washington. Join us to learn more about how you can become a citizen activist!
