Style sheet: Colour schemes

My magazine target audience is 16 to 25 year old girls, therefore I’m going to use colours that will interest them such as pinks and purples. Even though my target audience is mostly female I’d like to use some colours that would appeal to the males interested in my magazine. The colours I would like to use are:

CalibriI’m also going to use this font for the body of the text as again it’s very simple and easy to read.

Hobo StdThis font will be used for headlines as its bold and eye catching.“Rythmic”

Kristen ITCThis font is going to be used for pull out quotes as it looks handwritten and adds a personal touch.

Eras Light ITCI’m going to use this font for the body of the text as it’s simple and easy to read.

DummiesI tried lots of different versions of how I want my cover, contents and double page spread to look.In rough sketches I looked at various different designs and then further developed the one I liked the most.

These are the cover, contents and double page spread I have chosen. I also used examples of the colours I might use on my magazine.

Masthead

For the front cover:The main image will be a medium shot of a young female artist.The masthead is aligned with the top left corner as this will catch the reader’s eye as we read from left to right and using a feminine colour and font.Along the left side of the page headlines, cover lines and images are used to give an insight into the magazine.On the bottom third of the page the main headline will be written in a large font and a colour that stands out and grabs the audience’s attention.

For the contents page:An image of the front cover will be at the top of the page to help the readers navigate the magazine with ease.The images will be:- A medium shot of a girl group.- A long shot of the cover star.- A long shot of a group of people in a club.- A concertI have taken inspiration from these pages:

HeadlinePull out quote

For the double page spread:A pull out quote will be used at the top of the page in a large font to give the readers an in sight to what they are about to read.The main image will be a medium shot of a female artist spread across the right side of the spread.The page will be divided into three columns.The questions and the answers from the interview will be in different colours so the readers know who says what.The font used in the interview will be Calibri as its simple and easy to read.I have taken inspiration from these double page spreads:

This will be the layout of my monthly magazine. The format changes on each page to give more variation.The magazine contains advertisements as this is what finances the production of the magazine..The magazine also contains posters and this will intrigue a younger audience as its something they look for in a magazine.It includes interviews, articles, photos and quizzes as this was the most popular answers from my survey.
