Valenzano - Capurso - Cellamare

Mappa larga scala

Valenzano is a town of about 18 548 inhabitants, 13 km away from of Bari. The town, who's about 16 kmq extensive, it's known as a services city for the presence of several centers of scientific research

Cellamare is a town of about 5.507 inhabitants, 14 km away from of Bari, who's about 5,83 kmq extensive

Capurso is a town of about 14,000 inhabitants, located about 10 Km southeast of the capital, who's about 14,88 kmq extensive

Page 17: Planning Structures

‒ Proximity between the municipalities

‒ Extraurban historical roads that penetrate the town centre

‒ Possibility to use services located in

the city of Bari

‒ Direct access to roadsconnecting them to the city of Bari

‒ Lack of direct transport link among them both by road and by railways

Physical connectionAccessibility improvement

Sustainable mobility

Territorial Context

Page 18: Planning Structures

‒ Presence of numerous environmental, historical and architectural heritage

‒ Presence of many secondary and rural roads

‒ Possibility to create networks of “soft mobility” able to connect and integrate these urban areas, settlements and the rural heritage

‒ Mostly flat Land

Physical connectionAccessibility improvement

Sustainable mobility

Territorial Context

Page 19: Planning Structures

‒ Stone made town centre viability and characterized by narrow road sections and often non-vehicular

‒ Presence of roads that penetrate the city in a radial way up to town centres

‒ Creating networks able to relate the historical centers with urban and territorial context

‒ Difficult accessibily and lack of parking areas

‒ Total lack of bike and pedestrian paths

Enhancing social networks

‒ Strong dependence on the city of Bari

‒ Presence of local important polarities (research institute “IAM Istituto Agronomico Mediterraneo”, university seat)

‒ Lack of associations and active citizenship

‒ Lack of local and territorial services

Page 25: Planning Structures

‒ System of not very deep erosive furrows, typical of the Apulian landscape and their environmental and landscape value

‒ Homogeneous land features both in environmental characteristics and agricultural production, closely associated with urban systems

Redefinition of roles and / or identitiesReuse and / or reutilization

Improving quality of urban and territorial context

Territorial Context

Page 26: Planning Structures

‒ Returning to the specific features of rural context

‒ Territory mainly destined to olive groves and vineyards
