WelcomeDear customer, welcome to our 2014 / 2015 catalogue. Again for the coming season we have made some new additions and dropped a few lines from our catalogue. I heard a wise man once say when you decide to do something new always be prepared to drop something else you are doing already, advice worth remembering in the plant business. Our new catalogue represents our core range of plants, our passion and focus and our energy over the coming years. In addition to this core range we can and do produce on demand some privately held varieties on behalf of customers and we are always delighted to discuss such opportunities with you. If you have such requirements and want us to produce plants on contract we can discuss terms and volumes. We are also increasingly working on development of new plant production from tissue culture and supplying our increasing customer base worldwide. We can ship to all international markets and we can provide solutions for market access to a wide customer base.
We continue to develop our relationships with plant breeders, plant breeder agents and of course our own breeding activities are ongoing in our specialised niche areas. On the new plant side of things we at FitzGerald Nurseries continuoulsy introduce successfully new plant varieties from our own breeding. At IPM Essen 2013 our Irish Primrose™ Claddagh was awarded top perennial prize and voted best Perennial for 2013. Our new addition to the EverColor® range, Carex oshimensis ‘Everlime’, was awarded a bronze medal at Plantarium in August 2013 and Astelia ‘Silver Shadow’ exclusively propagated by us was shortlisted for the Flora Holland Glass Tulip. Meanwhile in Japan our Irish Primrose™ range has been introduced and likewise in Australia the Irish Primrose™ range has begun. On West Coast USA our Carex ‘Everillo’, Astelia ‘Silver Shadow’ and Phormium ‘Black Adder’ were all received very well at Spring Trials in California and as part of the Sunset Magazine Western Garden Collection.
You can keep up to date with some production and new plant pictures and or weekly activities on my Twitter and Facebook and blog which you can access from www.fitzgerald-nurseries.com or on the back page of the online version of this catalogue.
So in closing lets look forward to 2014/15 being the perfect year for our industry and the green shoots of economic recovery are only bettered by pleaseant gardening weather for our gardening customers. I hope you find some plants of interest to your nursery in the following pages. I wish you a very successful season and hope to meet you on our nursery or at some of our Trade show stands.
Yours Sincerely
Pat FitzGerald Managing Director

FitzGerald Nurseries also operate its own commercial plant micro-propagation facility. This facility supplies much of our own in-vitro plants. It also gives us the opportunity to test at a semi-commercial level many plant varieties pre market and asses their opportunities both in production and market suitability. We develop our own production protocols and can upscale to suit large volume needs. Speed to market is a critical focus for this integrated approach. Plant micro-propagation is a technically challenging and expensive system. FitzGerald Nurseries has experience from the plant micro-propagation technical perspective and the hardening issues that are encountered on the nursery. All our plant varieties are optimized for nursery production in advance of wider international market distribution. The understanding between nursery and laboratory in these niche and mass production lines is a critical factor to long term success and commercial return to nursery, breeder and laboratory.

Irish Primrose™
Spotlight
Now in the sixth year of devleopment our Irish Primrose™ range is taking shape by gaining recognition amongst the garden media and public as a truly unique and ironically a somewhat innovative step in the development of the primrose in commercial horticulture. Despite the fact that this style of primrose dates back four hundred years (right back to Shakespearean/Elizabethan times) as a garden trend, commercial Horticulture has lost sight of the beginnings of the primrose as a garden plant of great significance. Our Irish Primrose™ collection currently is made up of two distinctive groups. The Kennedy Irish Primrose™ range is the one with distinctivly chocolate foliage turning many heads with this uniqely Irish originated dark foliage and contrasting flowers. At IPM Essen 2013 the New Plant judging committee were so impressed that the Kennedy Irish Primrose™ Claddagh was awarded best perennial for 2013. The Kennedy Irish Primrose™ Drumcliff in 2011 and the Irish Primrose™ Moneygall in 2013 have been presented to President and Mrs Obama at the White House in Washington. The stories of our Irish Primrose™ range are too many to mention here, but you can catch up on them on our nursery blog. We market the Irish Primrose™ range as 4cm plugs or retail ready in 0.5L pots. Full marketing package for retail sales including labels, posters, bench tape and other POS materials are available. Our image library is an important part of the
Irish Primrose™ information pack and pictures have been published worldwide in many important garden magazine, trade journals, perennial publications
and online media sites. We would be deligthed to discuss this truly unique plant program with you.Check out Irish Primrose™ on www.irishprimrose.com
