Plant tissues
How do we recognise them?
Where could this possibly come from?
Meristematic tissue• Meristematic tissue is
composed of immature cells that grow, divide & differentiate giving rise to the other types of plant tissues.
• Eg. The root tip of an onion
Where might we find these cells?
Surface of a leaf• Note the guard cells.
What tissue type has this feature?
Xylem• Long tubes• Note the pits • Transport of water,
dissolved solutes.• Support
What do we call these features?
Vascular bundles (cross section)
Phloem –• Long tubes composed
of sieve tubes and companion cells.
• Transport of sugar.Xylem
Parenchyma
What are these?
What are those ringlets?• Parenchyma is a
simple tissue. It makes up the bulk of plant body.
• Xylem- those stained red are showing the lignin in xylem.
