What is a Retention Election and why does this matter?

After serving an initial ten year term, a standing judge does not have to subject himself to the

scrutiny of the normal election process in which other candidates compete for the same seat.

Once the initial term is up, the candidate will appear on the ballot alone with the choice of

retention for an additional ten years or not. A judge in Pennsylvania can stand for successive ten-

year terms in this manner until he or she reaches the age of 70, the mandatory retirement age.Rarely is a retention vote lost.

Keep in mind the retention vote when considering your choice for York County Court of

Common Pleas Judge. The currently seated judge, Mike Flannelly, has nearly 30 years

experience as a practicing attorney, and has been the appointed Judge since 2012. Congressman

Platts has 20 years of political experience, currently has two pension plans, and this position

would provide him with a third. Retention votes could keep Congressman Platts employed with

our tax dollars until the year 2032. The salary for this position is currently $173,271, which is

roughly the same as the salary for a US House Representative.

In May, The York 912 Patriots held a forum to present both Judge Flannelly and Congressman

Platts for Court of Common Pleas. You can see this meeting at

THE  BOTTOM LINE

Todd  Platts has…

No legal, courtroom or   judicial  experience. Not  a single noteworthy  accomplishment   for  the $4,000,000   plus tax  dollars

invested  in him over  the last  twenty  years .

A lot  of  nerve asking  for  a third   public   pension,  potentially  another  $3,500,000  in base  pay  alone, and  the trust  of  the taxpaying citizens of  this

district.
