    Hyde de Villaine La Guerra Chardonnay 2006 $47.75 $13.79 $33.96 94W&S

    Los Carneros, Napa Valley

A savory white from the Hyde-de Villaaine partnership, this comes from Hydes oldest blocks of Chardonnay. It includes fruitfrom an old Wente selection planted in 1979, and from a Calera San Benito selection palnted in 1989, both dry-farmed in shal-

low loam soils. It has the plus richness of apple butter, cut by gingery acidity. With a day of air, the wine seems to grow fresher,

its minerality and verve a seductive match for Dungeness crab. -Wine & Spirits

93 points Wine Spectator: Tight and focused, delivering a beam of lime, citrus and green apple fruit thats crisp and lively, gain-

ing depth and a minerally nuance on the long nish. -Wine Spectator, 93

The nose exudes intense fruit characteristics ranging from ripe peach and apricot to tropical lychee and wet stone aromas. Pow-

erful and complex avors contrasted by a pure and rened structure. Similar to the 2004 HdV Chardonnay, the 2006 vintage is

balanced with a tense acid structure providing nesse and purity. The mouth feel is broad and seamless giving way to a seriousnish. The wine expresses an abundance of Hyde Vineyard fruit while maintaining the trademark HdV minerality. Recommend -

ed pairing with a wild mushroom or seafood risotto for a balanced dining experience. Stphane Vivier, Winemaker

Martino. Fermentado en toneles de roble eslavo.

A very tight white, but with some wonderful toffee, cream, lemon rind and apple undertones. Full and rich, with a long, long

nish. Still needs some time. Best after 2008. -Wine Spectator

    Jermann Vintage Tunina Friuli IGT 2007 $61.50 $17.80 $43.70 92WS

Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia and Picolit

ance and intense fruit on the nish. Almost late-harvest in style. -Wine Spectator

    El Molino Chardonnay Rutherford 2006 $61.75 $17.81 $43.94 96CGC

    100% Chardonnay

Rich and remarkably complex in the nose with elements of toast, roasted nuts and sweet smoke joining a solid measure of pre-cise, apple-like fruit, this deeply lled wine follows suit in the mouth with big, but neatly proportioned avors that are long on

juicy apples and sweet oak spice. It is quite well-balanced for the big-bodied Chardonnay that it is, and its scant

suggestions of last-minute heat are more than adequately buffered by persistent impressions of fruity richness.

Its sheer opulence invites drinking now but we would hold off a bit.

    El Molino Chardonnay Rutherford 2007 $61.50 $17.80 $43.70 92WS

anced, ending with subtle nuances. Drink now through 2013 -Wine Spectator

    Far Niente Chardonnay Napa Valley 2007 $58.75 $16.95 $41.80 91WS

Pure, clean, rich and layered green apple, pear, spice and nutmeg give this a tight focus. Full-bodied, intense

yet supple, with a long, fruity nish. Drink now through 2012. -Wine Spectator

Far Nientes beautiful 2007 Chardonnay Estate offers up copious aromas of lemon blossoms, poached pears, and brioche, crisp acidity, a hint of tropical fruits, a greenish-light gold color, and medium to full-bodied, el-

egant, pure avors. It should drink well for 3-4 years. -The Wine Advocate, 91

    Grgich Hills Fume Blanc Napa Valley 2008 $37.50 $10.90 $26.60 89WS

100% Sauvignon Blanc (80% fermentado en barricas francesas de segundo ao con levaduras naturales)

Theres a terric jolt of acidity in this wine, which has distinctive grapefruit, Meyer lemon, lime, passion fruit,

fresh asparagus and jalapeno notes, with good density and concentration. -Wine Spectator

    DeLille Cellars Chaleur Estate Blanc 2006 $39.67 $11.41 $28.26 94WE

Rich and smoky, this Sauvignon Blanc-Smillon blend delivers a nose suggesting golden raisins, ripe gs,

white peaches and light streaks of butter, honey and caramel. The fruit and wood are balanced and the alcohol

is a moderate 13.5%. Everything here is in proportion, layered, smooth and seductive. More than past vintages,

this is a Chaleur blanc that seems destined to age and develop over the next decade or more. -Wine Enthusiast

One white wine is produced under the DeLille label. The 2006 Chaleur Estate Blanc is a blend of 61% Sauvi-

gnon Blanc and 39% Semillon. The wine goes through full malolactic fermentation with lees stirring. Medium

straw-colored, it has an enticing bouquet of spring owers, melon, and fresh herbs. Toasty, complex, and mouth-

coating, this full-avored wine could easily pass for a top Pessac-Leognan like Fieuzal. It can be enjoyed now

and over the next several years. -Robert Parker, 91

The wine has a dark ruby hue and shows a complex nose of intense oral and red fruit aromas. Scents of va-

nilla and sweet spices add up to the mix in a unique bouquet. The experience continues in the palate with soft

and elegant tannins accompanied by a deep and dense middle leading to layers of fruit, spices and owers. The

wine is balanced and shows a unique denition of avors and persistence on the nish. It reminisces of a young

Cte Rotie or Saint Joseph with the opulent but restrained fruit of Hyde Vineyard. Our 2006 HdV can be en-

joyed now after an hour of decanting and will certainly age well for 6 to 10 years. -Stphan Vivier, Winemaker

In the glass, this wine opens into an intense mosaic of spice, blackberry, red fruits, and sweet vanilla. Fol-

lowing this aromatic performance, the wine surges forth with a dense core of black cherry and hickory smoke.

Peppered with notes of spice, red fruits, and sweet vanilla, soft mineral tannins accompany the black cherry core

through the mid-palate and on to a long nish. The 2004 HdV Belle Cousine currently favors decanting an hour

The deep ruby/purple-tinged 2005 Altagracia (91% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot and Petit Verdot)

reveals a spicy, mineral-laden, black fruit, damp forest, trufe, and crushed rock-scented bouquet. With lovely

fruit, medium to full body, and no hard edges, it is ideal for drinking over the next 10-15 years. Despite having

over 40-plus acres of vineyards in the northeasterly sector of Napa just south of Calistoga, the production at

Araujo remains relatively limited, with the agship wine, the Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard, producing

between 1,600 and 2,200 cases of wine, and the second wine, the Altagracia, between 800 and 1,200 cases...

Much of the credit has to go to proprietors Bart and Daphne Araujo and, of course, their top-notch winemak-

ing team, which has always been led by Francoise Peschon. Araujos second wines are among the nest second

Good deep ruby-red. Smoky black raspberry, mocha, tobacco, earth and brown spices on the nose, along with

    El Molino Pinot Noir Napa Valley 2005 $73.75 $21.26 $52.49 90CGC

We continue to be mystied at how El Molino always manages to succeed with this fussy grape in what isCabernet territory, but succeed the wine does both in terms of wonderful balance and its very deep and well-

dened fruit. Smelling of cherries, plums, violets and sweet oaky spice, it unfolds on the palate with lithe,

genuinely complex, fruit-and-spice avors that persist on and on at the nish. Its lack of bluster implies no lack

of richness, and it will drink famously with veal and lighter lamb dishes over the coming four or ve years.

    -Connoisseurs Guide to California Wine

Brilliant deep red. Classic El Molino nose of lifted black cherry, raspberry, and kirsch liqueur. Secondary notes

of underbrush and smoked cedar adding complexity. Bright lifted entry to a powerful but integrated tanninstructure with a broad plush mid-palate, cherry avors and excellent grip, followed by a long fresh nish. Thiswas the last vintage made by El Molinos founder and Napa Valley legent, the late Reg Oliver.
