Ben Wattam Investment Director Ben graduated in Economics with Geography from Loughborough University and has worked in investment management since joining Mattioli Woods in 2004. He sits on the Asset Allocation Committee and has research responsibilities within the Investment Research Team, which he leads with Ian Goodchild. He co-manages the Mattioli Woods Multi-asset Funds with Ian Goodchild and Mark Moore and manages the Mattioli Woods Structured Products Fund with Mark Fuller. He regularly presents at client seminars on a wide range of investment and economic topics. Ian’s aspirations to work in finance started at a young age. While his younger brother was pushing toy cars around, he had parked his car outside ‘the bank’ and was ‘working’. Having always been interested in wealth and financial provision, he studied Financial Services at university. In his seventeen years’ experience, Ian worked in accountancy and as a financial adviser before becoming an investment manager with Atkinson Bolton Consulting in May 2006, and setting up the Discretionary Portfolio Management Service in January 2007. He sits on the Asset Allocation Committee and has research responsibilities within the Investment Research Team, which he leads with Ben Wattam. Ian co-manages the range of Mattioli Woods Multi-Asset Funds with Ben Wattam and Mark Moore. Ian also sits on the Asset Management Executive Committee and the Operations Executive Committee focusing on strategy, oversight and operations for both the Asset Management Division and for the whole Group. Alex Nix BSc (Hons) MRICS Assistant Fund Manager Alex is responsible for the asset management of Custodian REIT’s property portfolio and is a member of the fund manager’s Investment Committee. Alex joined Custodian Capital in 2012 from Lambert Smith Hampton, where he spent eight years following his graduation from Nottingham Trent University with a degree in Real Estate Management. The company was established with a seed portfolio of £95m and successful IPO, raising further 55m. Alex Brown Consultant Alex has worked at Mattioli Woods for over 18 years, having joined in 1997 after graduating from the University of Leicester. Alex now looks after in excess of 150 clients throughout the UK. A good proportion of Alex’s clients are owner-managers with commercial property let to their businesses within their pension schemes, and this is an area in which Alex has considerable experience and knowledge – as well as also providing ongoing and bespoke investment advice for clients with more conventional pension schemes. Alex is married with three children, and is a keen golfer, biker, and a regular visitor of the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy every year. After ten years at Norwich Union (now Aviva) in various managerial and technical roles, David moved into benefits consultancy with a leading firm of East Anglian advisers. In 2001, he co-founded Atkinson Bolton Consulting, which became part of the Mattioli Woods Group in 2013. David is a Chartered Financial Planner, a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society, a qualified Investment Manager, and a member of the Group Investment Committee. He specialises in high-level holistic wealth management advice, with a focus on maximising the tax efficiency of investments through effective planning. His skills are particularly in demand with high earners and those with significant investable assets who appreciate the depth and breadth of his technical expertise.
