Hi everyone, Happy April to everyone. I hope we do not get too
many April showers as we have had enough for our May flowers!
Laugh Love and Learn is on May 5th. It is always a sellout, so get your
group together and sign up. Registration is open now @ $25.00 per
person. After April 21, it will be $35.00. Remember, there will be free
educational tables set up for everyone in the morning, starting at 8:30.
Dana has some very educational and uplifting speakers booked, for
the luncheon.
We are looking for volunteers for our Easy listeners. It is a telephone
reassurance program where we contact people who no longer can
participate in senior activities. Volunteers will call house bound mem-
bers and see if all their needs are being met, or just to chat. If you are
interested please contact Dana, Patti Strickland or myself. Training
will be given and it looks like a very rewarding program for all.
The Pleasant Hill Senior Board just received an award from the Pleas-
ant Hill Recreation Board. We received an Appreciation Award to the
2016 Board of Directors. Congratulations!
I hope everyone notices the lovely tree that Helen Reid decorates eve-
ry month with seasonal decorations. I wish I was half that artistic.
Do not forget Easter Pancake Breakfast and Senior Boutique Sale on
April 15th.
It is so nice to see pictures again of our seniors in the Sounds. We
need more!
We will be having a General Membership Meeting on Friday April
14th. I hope I see a lot of you there. We need input from our mem-
bers.
Have a very nice April, and hopefully there won’t be a lot of rain. But
in August we will all be complaining how hot it is, so let’s go forward
and enjoy our spring. Remember if you have something to say posi-
tive or negative, please tell me.

Grief Support Group
Dealing with the loss of a loved one can be very difficult to cope with. It is often helpful to share thoughts and feelings with others who
have also experienced a loss. In collaboration with Hospice of the East Bay, we will be offering a 6-week drop-in grief support group.

Dear Center Members,
Happy Spring! As many of you are already aware, we are gearing up for
our annual Fundraiser, Laugh, Love, and Learn, which will be held on
Friday, May 5th. The speakers this year I believe will be particularly
relevant to our seniors. The first speaker is a special agent from the FBI
who is specifically in charge of scams targeted at seniors. We have all
heard of the scam where the grandchild calls and ask for money to get
them out of jail, and the scam where persons have won the lottery, but
have to pay for the taxes first. Well these scams still go on and our sen-
iors need to be reminded to be cautious , and to be informed of where
they go if they have fell victim to a scam. It can be very difficult for a
victim of a scam to come forward and report to the authorities. They may
feel embarrassed, or ashamed.
Anyone can be a victim of a crime and those feels of shame or embar-
rassment are normal. I speak from first hand experience. When I was
first married our house got robbed. We went away on Memorial Day
weekend. We left on a Friday and when we returned on Monday the
back window had been broken, and the house was a mess. The robbers
obviously had some time; not only did they carry large pieces out the
front door like the television, but smaller stuff was packed in our suitcas-
es and taken out the some way. Someone had actually sat on my bed
and gone through my make-up basket piece by piece, while someone
else had a bowl of cereal in the kitchen. I remember calling home after it
happened and telling my parents. The first thing my dad said was “Well
Dana you know you not suppose to go away over holiday weekends.” I
guess I didn't know the rules about vacationing around the burglars
schedule. I did after that. In fact , still to this day when we go away, I
make sure to pack the car in the garage with the door shut. Its funny my
dad had one reaction but my mom another. She sent me a check for
$200.00 so that I could go buy new luggage. Thanks mom!

In November 1989, Measure A passed and authorized the school district to sell up
to $90 million in bonds to rehabilitate and upgrade its aging schools and centers.
Mt. Diablo School District encompasses the cities of Concord, Pleasant Hill and
Clayton; portions of Walnut Creek and Martinez; and unincorporated areas including
Bay Point, Pacheco, and a small portion of Lafayette.
Note: Rossmoor is NOT within the Mt. Diablo School District boundaries.
