“My name is Yosselin Herrera and I am 18 years’ old. In 2014, I fled El Salvador because of gender violence and threats from the MS 13 gang. I came to Siler City to reunite with my family. If I’m sent back to El Salvador, it could mean my death sentence.” These are the terrifying words of Chatham County high school student Yosselin Herrera, who came to the US as an unaccompanied minor and could be deported if she’s not granted an asylum petition by Charlotte’s Immigration Court on January 31.
