Thanks to some special funding through RREAP (Rural and Remote Access Program) we have managed to engage the services of Christine Coop, an occupational therapist, to present a workshop for our school community. Christine’s presentation will focus on the need to develop emotional energy in our lives. Information on the workshop has been provided throughout the last few newsletters. I would really encourage as many parents as possible to attend this workshop as it is not often they we are able to bring speakers of this quality to Tully to do a presentation. From the feedback I have received on Christine Coop you will not be disappointed if you attend. School Athletics Carnival This week we have our Athletics Carnival taking place on Wednesday and Friday. On Wednesday children who are 8 years and older will be participating in events which include 800 metre races, heats for 200 metres and high jump events. These events will commence from 11:15am. Children are asked to wear their regular Sports Uniform on Wednesday. Black umbro style shorts or black bike pants may be worn in place of the sports shorts/skirts to assist with running. On Friday all students are asked to be at school before 8:30am so that the roll can be taken. They will then move to their events from there. The children from 8 years and older will compete in long jump and shot put while the younger children will move onto the oval to compete in the Mini-Olympics events and relays. On Friday children are encouraged to wear their house colours. They are asked to ensure that they are wearing clothing that is sun-smart as we will be outdoors for most of the day. Hats need to be worn. Sunscreen should also be applied. Footwear needs to be worn to and from school on this day. To get into the spirit of the day on Friday children may colour their hair but hair sprays etc are not to be brought to school. Note that we will be using the top oval at the state school for the running events on both Wednesday and Friday. If your child needs to go home early for a particular reason on either day please ensure that their class teacher has been notified. We may require parents to assist with some of the events particularly field events. A timetable for the sports carnival was attached with last week’s newsletter. Touch Football This Sunday the Peninsula Touch football trials will take place in Atherton. Aiden Porter, Layne Bennett Lucy Berge and Matthew Langdon will be representing the Tully District sides on the day. I would like to wish these students all the best. Welcome*** Community*** Hospitality***

WelcomeWelcomeWelcomeWelcome Last weekend marked the last Sacramental Program celebration

in our Parish with some candidates making their First Holy

Communion at the Holy Spirit Church, Mission Beach. Again, we

congratulate each and every one of them. To some, these

Sacraments may seem like just going through the motions of

being a Catholic. However (and as their teachers, Peta and I can

vouch for this) these students have been so excited…so filled

with joy…(even to the point of jumping up and down at the front

of the teacher’s desk!) that their absolute excitement in regards

to making their Confirmation and First Holy Communion has been

totally infectious. I am not completely sure, but I guess this

excitement stems from their genuine love of their faith and that

real sense of belonging to something much, much bigger than

themselves…something that fills their lives with hope and love.

And this of course, has been nurtured by their parents, family,

Tania, Geraldine, Jo and Fr Michael. Thank-you.

Community We would like to thank Miss Campbell and the Year 2 class

who recently held their class liturgy on the Holy Trinity. It was great to see some Mums and even a Dad attend!

What a wonderful way to show your child that you value their faith journey and spirituality. We would like to thank

Mrs Gaskell and the Year 6/7 class who led our Whole

School Reconciliation Liturgy yesterday. We would also like to thank Fr Michael for presiding at both celebrations.

Next Thursday at 9am, the Year 4 class are hosting their class mass; plus a little added celebration, with one of our

students making their Confirmation. Please feel very

welcome to come along and celebrate with us. Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you to the parents and friends who RSVP’d to come along to the Christine Coop Emotional Energy Workshop being held next Tuesday the 24th of June at 6pm in the St Clare’s School Arts Centre. We came close to

filling the number of places we had available and we may not have been able to proceed if this was not the case. So my sincerest gratitude to those parents and friends who are taking the time to come along. We are very lucky to be able to hold something like this here in Tully and I sincerely thank Greg for making the funds available for this to happen. The workshop will

run for around three hours with a cuppa and dessert interval. We are very much looking forward to it and to seeing you there.

Happy Birthday to Mrs Bowden for today and Miss Gaffney who

is celebrating her birthday on Thursday!!! Happy Birthday ladies….

May you have a blessed week…

A Blessing for our Sacramental Program Candidates…. May God bless you, For wanting to walk with Him on your spiritual journey, For wanting to lead by example when the path isn’t clear, For wanting to wait and pray when problems slow your pace, For offering to fly when your Spirit wants to soar, May God bless you, Amen

Br Paul and Mr Tom O’Donnell from Catholic Education

Services addressing the students. Br Paul will be completing his role as Director at the end of this term.

Mr O’Donnell’s role is helping to set up Special Assistance School in our Diocese.

June 2014

Dear Parents,

With the June/July school holidays approaching it’s time for a friendly reminder about your holiday security. House break and enters are one of the most common crimes. In many instances house break-ins are crimes of opportunity with entry gained through an open or unlocked door or window.

Good home security is as simple as the following three basic steps:

1. Make it as difficult as possible for an offender to gain entry i.e. install and use key operated locks on doors and windows, don’t place keys under door mats or in obvious places.

2. Make it as difficult as possible for an offender to exit with your property i.e. use the key-operated locks on doors and windows, make sure alarms are functioning.

3. Make it as difficult as possible for an offender to want to steal your property i.e. engrave or microdot all items of value.

HOLIDAY SECURITY CHECK LIST – Have you?

• Locked all windows with key operated locks

• Locked all external doors with keys, including deadlocks

• Advised local Police you are away & provide contact details

• Locked all tools away to avoid having them used to break into your home

• Cancelled paper & mail deliveries or have mail redirected

• Asked neighbour or friend to collect junk mail & keep an eye on your property

• Disconnect electrical supply on garage door to avoid having it used as an exit point

• If you are leaving your car at home, ensure you either hide your keys or give them to a

trusted friend or neighbour for safe keeping. All keys should be kept out of sight.

• Locked valuables in a safe or bank safety deposit box

• Engraved belongings to act as a deterrent for thieves

• Left some clothing on the clothes line to give it a ‘lived in’ look

• Asked a trusted friend to park a car in your driveway to look like you have visitors

• Arranged for a friend or neighbour to mow your lawn

• Automatic timing devices switching lights on and off at specific times

• Turned down the volume on your telephone so it is not audible to possible offenders.

• Left the house looking like it is ‘Lived in”

• Lock up wheelie bins to avoid having them used to move property or as ladders

Please take extra care when driving & remember the Fatal Five- DRINK DRIVING, SPEEDING, SEATBELTS, FATIGUE & DRIVER DISTRACTION.

Hope you all enjoy your holidays.
