ADVICE FOR EVERYONE
HOW TO AVOID CATCHING NOROVIRUS There’s no 100% effective way to avoid norovirus. But there are some things you can do to reduce your chances of catching it. Keep your hands clean. Wash them frequently with soap and water, particularly after going to the toilet, and before eating or preparing food. Avoid raw, unwashed food. Rinse fruit and vegetables well before eating them. Don’t share towels, flannels or toothbrushes. If someone in your home has norovirus, you could catch it from something they’ve used. Keep household surfaces clean. Anywhere you prepare food, and your bathroom, should be kept as clean as possible using bleach-based cleaners.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU CATCH NOROVIRUS
Keep it to yourself. Staying at home and keeping your hands clean can help avoid spreading norovirus to others. You can still be infectious up to 48 hours after your symptoms go, so it’s best to avoid seeing other people during that time. It’s especially important to avoid visiting anyone in a hospital or care home, as norovirus is more serious for people who are already ill.
Drink plenty of liquid. Water is best. This will replace the water your body loses from vomiting and diarrhoea. Avoid alcohol.
Eat food that’s easy to digest. That means things like soup, rice, pasta and bread. Babies should continue with their normal feeds.

been based in Tongue Health Centre for

Colin Armer
Colin joined Riverbank as our second
Advanced Nurse Practitioner in June
2018. He previously worked as an

Team. He has been a Staff and Deputy
Charge Nurse in a number of
locations including Leicester,
Inverness and Golspie.

Prescriptions
There are 2 ways to order your repeat prescription.
1.Via website at www.riverbankmedicalpractice.co.uk
2.Paper copy: Into our Prescription Post Box at the front door
or hand into your Pharmacy.
Please only tick the boxes for the items you need .
No repeat prescription requests are accepted over the phone.
Please allow 72 hour turnaround before collecting your
repeat prescription from the Practice or your Pharmacy

telephone appointments each day. Can
your health issue be dealt with over
the telephone? If so, please ask to
book a telephone consultation.

HOME VISITS
Patients who have a terminal illness, are
housebound and/or chonically unwell may
receive a home visit from an ANP or a GP.
We could phone you first to do an initial
assessment. Home visits are mostly made at
the end of morning surgery so you may not
be visited until lunchtime.
Test or Lab Results
You don’t need to phone the Practice to
get test or lab results. We will contact
you if any follow up is needed.
Of course if you do want to phone and ask
about your results, then that’s okay too.

Thyroid Testing, BP monitoring and Health Promotion (Advice about
Smoking, Alcohol, Diet and Exercise)
N.B. Some services you may require are not available on the NHS, for
example, life insurance forms. A fee is chargeable for that type of work.
