Parent Feedback: Planning for 2021 and beyond…

Feedback from parents and the wider school community is always important to us as we work everyday to make improvements at CEPS. As we move into planning for 2021 we really need your help in completing surveys to share your thoughts about CEPS and how we can continue to improve. The first of our surveys have been posted to both SeeSaw and Facebook. I would greatly appreciate if you could take a couple of minutes to complete the survey.

Cyber Safety- Technology plays an increasingly bigger role in our lives every day and finding the balance is often a very difficult task. Knowing when to allow our children access to technology is even more difficult. Parents and carers play a key role in guiding their children as they first encounter the online world and begin to learn through exploration, play and social interaction. Before allowing children to access technology, it is extremely important to ask yourself and your children some questions and have a plan to ensure that their experiences are safe as there are significant threats when using technology, whether it be on a phone, laptop, Xbox, Playstation or any of the many ways the connect.

It is important to consider both the physical age of your child and their level of maturity and resilience. The majority of social media sites require users to be at least 13 years of age before they can register, although some sites are created especially for children under 13.

Questions to consider- How much time should my child spend online? When are they ready for social media accounts? What are the benefits and risks of using social media? Does your child understand the importance of protecting their personal information? Does your child understand how privacy settings for social media work? Does your child understand what is safe to share online? Does your child know how to report cyberbullying and other kinds of abusive content? Is your child willing to let you establish clear rules and supervise their social media activity?

SASS Appreciation Week-

This week we recognised the hard work of all of the SASS staff at Campbelltown East PS. Each class made a special gift for a member of the SASS staff and presented it to them in a ZOOM Assembly. We thank each and every member of the SASS

staff at CEPS, the office staff, SLSO’s, crossing supervisor and general assistant for all that they do every day to support our students and the entire CEPS community.

NAPLAN Check In- 2020 has presented us all with many challenges. As a result of the COVID challenges, the Department of Education has cancelled NAPLAN assessments for Years 3 and 5 and replaced it with a much smaller Check-In assessment for students. Over the next 5 weeks, students in Year 3 and 5 will complete this brief assessment during class time to provide teachers with a snap shot of where students are in Reading and Numeracy.

Enrol now for Kindergarten 2020-

2021 Enrolments (New Enrolment Policy) We are now taking enrolments for Kindergarten for 2021. If you have a child who is turning 5 on or before July 31st 2021, t hey can start next year. Please contact the school via phone to organise an enrolment package. At present, we are unable to organise a Kinder 2021 Parent Information Evening due to COVID 19 restrictions, however we are working on it. In accordance with the new Department of Education enrolment policy, parents planning to enrol their child will be asked to complete the 100- point residential address check to confirm they live within the school’s designated intake area. This means you will need to provide documents to verify your child’s current address. Please see below the list of approved documents for the residential address check. To complete the enrolment process, parents will also need to provide: 1. An enrolment application 2. Birth certificate, passport, identity document. 3. Australian Childhood Immunisation Register (ACIR), Immunisation History Statements (Obtained from Medicare). In addition, if your child is the subject of family law matters you will need to provide copies of any family law or other relevant court orders. If your child has health, disability or other support needs, we would greatly appreciate if you could provide:

1. Copies of medical/healthcare or emergency action plans.

2. Evidence of any disability or other support needs, including any learning and support plans.

Key Reminders: Supporting the safety and wellbeing of our school community during this period of COVID-19: We take the health and safety of students and staff very seriously and continue to implement stringent health and safety measures and risk management, particularly with the social distancing of adults and responding to students and staff who present as unwell. All school activities and operations are being implemented in line with the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) and NSW Health guidelines as applicable. Students do not need to follow social distancing guidelines, but should follow good hygiene practices that have been put in place at our school in the previous months. Staff and students continue to wash hands and sanitise frequently throughout the day. Some key information: • If your child is unwell, please do not send them to school. If they are unwell at school, students will need to return home. If your child is tested for COVID 19, we ask that you contact the school to let us know. • We kindly request that no parents / carers enter the school ground. If needing any assistance from the school, please contact the school office and a member of staff will help you. As a safety measure, all non-essential adults will be restricted entry to the school grounds at this stage. • We will continue with current arrangements for dropping off and picking up students at various gates around the school.

Athletics Carnival- Last week we held our Athletics Carnival for all students K-6. This event was different to any other as missed the sound of parents and community cheering on the students as they participated in each event. All students participated with great enthusiasm and amazing behaviour. Students and staff took many photos on the day, many of which have been shared on our school Facebook page for your viewing.

Attendance at school

LATENESS TO SCHOOL

Important Reminder: Many students are arriving to school late in the morning. It’s getting colder and we understand that it is tempting to stay in bed for a little longer. However, the bell that signals the start of the school day rings at 8.55am. It is a legal

requirement for students to be at school and it is important for them to hear the morning messages and routines for the day. As teacher rolls are legal documents, it is vital that they are accurate so it is necessary for all students who are not in lines, therefore late, to go to the office for a late note. Our roles are regularly monitored by the School Home Liaison Officer and regular patterns of lateness to school are monitored. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but these protocols ensure the safety of all students.

Lunches

We have had quite a few students coming to school without lunch. We understand this can happens from time to time and we are more than happy to contact parent/carers and or provide them a prepared sandwich. You can place an order via the schools canteen “Mel’s Lunchbox” on their Facebook page using the personal message option.

Aboriginal School Shirts If anyone would like to purchase an Aboriginal shirt, please contact Kerrie Heath in the school office. Shirts are $35.00 We have a small number in stock ATM.

This week 5/6H participated in Science week. They watched an ocean documentary called Plastic Ocean and were involved in experiments called melting moments,

evocative evaporation, delightful dissolving, gas bags and candle capers. It was a fun week and a lot was learnt.
