The Michigan Senate passed a bill to eliminate the 22% surcharge on the Michigan BusinessTax. This bill would cut the amount of the surcharge in half this year and eliminate it nextyear. The opponents of the legislation site the need to also have a "revenue neutral" plan toabsorb hundreds of millions of dollars in lost taxes. The legislation is now in the MichiganHouse of Representatives where it is referred to the Tax Policy Committee. To learn moreabout this issue you can go to www.legislative.mi.gov to see a bill analysis that explains bothpositions regarding the repeal of the tax. This issue will probably not see final action untilthe Fall. To express your thoughts on this legislation, you can contact our StateRepresentative Marc Corriveau at [email protected].
