Introduction

• Pervasive Environments–

Page 4: Pm

Middleware Infrastructures and Interaction tools

about discovered entities.

• Philips Pronto–

– Merely deal with IR/RF

Visualizing a Pervasive Environment

• NaviCam• Digiscope• U-Photo• PECo

Pervasive Maps

Service-oriented VS. Application-

oriented– Web interface

Pervasive Maps Architecture

• PM host:– PM gateway

– Serves a dynamic Web interface

• PM client:– Assists end-users in accessing a PM

environment

– Can be extended with plugins.

• PM editor:– Design and configuration tool for the PM host.

Modeling the Environment

Resource

• A resources

– Mobile interaction devices

• B resources

– Everyday, often stationary computer augmented resources.

• C resources

– Invisibly embeded in the environment but can be discovered by application

• D resources

– Correspond to physical objects without computing platform that refer to other resources or applicatoins.

Modeling Process

• Define places–

• Define sights–

• Define resources–

• Connect places, sights and resources–

– Relative distance calculate

Augmented Reality

• Locate oneself in an unfamiliar environment

• Access the digital dimension of a resource.

• Create a dedicated 'start menu' in the real world composed of tags.

Museum environment Digital score

Conclusions

• A first user study point out that appreciation factor of Pervasive Maps is high.

• PM editor still lacks a satisfactory stage of usability.

• To improve the modeling tool, – users suggested to include a step-

by-step wizard for creating a digital version of their environment.
