DELEGATES WEEKLY REPORTS

TRAILER YACHTS Report for 16 January 2016 Many of the Port Kembla Sailing Club member are still on adventures around the country side so it was left to Momentum and Frou Frou to represent TYs at today’s race. Aboard Momentum were Barry, Ray, Richard Lech, and Ron, and aboard Frou Frou were Andy and Richard Hipsley. It was another very nice day for sailing with overcast skies and a southerly coming in at 10 -12 knots. Thanks to Rob and Brian for setting a great course and for looking out for us on the water today. As things turned out they had their work cut out supporting injured crew. I am finding it difficult to write anything about a race where, apart from a minor altercation at the start, and Momentum retiring two thirds around the first triangle due to an injured crew member, only one boat finished. Firstly about the start, and who would have thought that two boats with the whole of a starting line to themselves could come in contact with each other? Depending on which angle you viewed the event from, either Frou Frou cut in front of Momentum without allowing her room to avoid a collision or that Momentum was the overtaking boat and ran in to the back of Frou Frou. The event did result in an untidy start for both TYs with Momentum raising the red flag and Frou Frou putting in some penalty turns just in case. Then, in my opinion something more dramatic occurred although we did not find out until we were back ashore. Ray Stanley was taken out with Momentums boom at the jibe mark, knocking him overboard and lacerating his forehead just above his right eye. Momentum stopped to pick Ray while the Duty Crew stood by to assist. It was very fortunate that Momentum had our resident orthopaedic surgeon aboard to render first aid. I imagine that it would have been a more satisfying experience for Richard if Ray had a broken bone to fix instead of a bump on the head so that he could have applied more of his surgical skills. On another note there is some suspicion aboard Frou Frou whether Ray had an ulterior motive related to this incident. We did offer him a crew position for next week’s race. Maybe he thought he could make himself unavailable by knocking himself out in dramatic circumstances. On a more serious note we all wish Ray a speedy recovery. Results for Championship 5, Pointscore 12

The end Trev SMALL CATS Report for 16th January 2016 - P/S 12 C/C 5 Small Cats A cooler cloudy day around 21 degrees Celsius with 9-12 knot breeze with 17 knot gusts made for some great sailing. Rob Porter and Bruce doing duty setting the course. Plenty of discussion regards the upcoming Katagatta 5th and 6th of March and handing out of final draft of flyer and notice or race for review and feedback. This week a new A class AUS902 came down from the highlands sailed by Mark Bannister intending to be a regular competitor. Ross Fyfe not sailing this week as his knee giving him a bit of curry. He brought down his faithful dog for a look and catch up. Even with a number of sailors away and doing duty we had 9 catamarans sailing. This week we had separate starts for small and large cats. Division 3 for small cats and division 4 for large cats. During the Christmas break the A class catamarans had their Nationals and of course as mentioned last week a number of the small cats participated in the Cuddy cup. Once out on the water a starboard course was set. Start line outside of club house, windward mark over towards shallows and the wing mark towards the middle of the lake. Small cats championship 5 start got away cleanly with White Wave closely followed by Groove Thing, Billyo and Hot Pepper. All on starboard tack heading for the reef before tacking and heading south towards the middle of the lake. On the 1st work to the windward mark not a lot separated the small cats. White wave and groove thing in particular having a good tussle. The moderate breeze providing plenty of power to fly a hull and trapeze and the catamarans generating plenty of speed. A great broad reach angle to the wing mark saw plenty of spray flying as the cats skimmed across the waves . Occasionally a hull digging into the back of a wave causing spray to explode over the boat. Hot Pepper was seen to be stepping out on trapeze however unable to keep up with the front runners. Billyo noticing a person floating in the water dropped out to assist. As it turned out one of the Ty’s losing a crew member. The response boat coming over and taking over. I am advised a cut on the head treated with copious amounts of head bandaging looking a bit like a mummy were in the order of the day when dropped off to shore assistance.

Scratch times across finish line were as follows

(small cats start time 14:12:15 & large cats start time 14:17:15): 15:30:57 Ross Symphony 2 A Class Classic 15:36 Tony & Amie White Wave Maricat Sloop 15:41:53 Tony S Groove Thing Windrush S/S 15:42:40 Mark Bannister AUS902 A Class 15:49:28 Hugh Hot pepper Windrush S/S 15:50:55 Paul E Playtime Nacra 16 Sq DNF Bill Billyo Nacra 14 square DNS Craig & Bruce Felix the Cat Windrush S/S General:
