B is for born. Pocahontas was born in 1595 in Virginia.

D is for died. Pocahontas died on a ship going from England to America in 1617.

E is for education. Pocahontas did not go to school. Instead she learned how to garden, weave baskets and make clay pots.

F is for father. Chief Powhatan was Pocahantas’s father.

H is for hostage. Pocahantas was held hostage for over a year when she was kidnapped by the settlers.

L is for love. People in England loved Pocahontas and followed her around.

N is for name. Matoka was Pocahontas’s true name. Matoka means “Little Snowfeather.”

O is for officer. Pocahontas’s son returned to America to become a military officer.

P is for Pocahontas. Pocahontas was a nickname, which means “Playful One.”

Q is for Queen Anne. Pocahontas met Queen Anne and King James in England.

R is for Rebecca. Pocahontas’s name was changed to Rebecca when she got married.

S is for spouse. Her spouse was an Englishman, John Rolf. She met him, and fell in love, while she was being held prisoner by the settlers.

T is for traveled. Pocahontas traveled to England with John Rolf and her son Thomas.

U is for upset. Pocahontas was upset when she bumped into John Smith in England. Pocahontas was so upset because she had been told he had died.

V is for Varina. John Rolf and Pocahontas lived in a house called Varina, north of Jamestown.

W is winter. Pocahontas saved the Jamestown settlers from starvation by bringing them food and supplies.

X is for eXecution. Pocahontas saved John Smith from execution.

Y is for younger. In the Disney movie Pocahontas was a young woman. History tells us Pocahontas was much younger. She was about 12 years old when she met John Smith.

Z is for zipcode. There are two towns named Pocahontas in the USA. One of them is in Iowa and it’s zipcode is 50574.
