The"C"inLogCderivesfrom"Cineon",whichwas
thedigitalfilmscanning,processingandrecording
systemdevelopedbyKodakinthe90s.Itisalso
thenameofafileformatthatcontainsdensitydata
fromscannednegativefilm.Densityisalogarithmic
measureoftheopacityofthefilm.Therelation
ofthedensitytothefilm’sexposureiscalledthe
characteristiccurveofthefilm.Eachstockhasits
owncharacteristiccurve,buttheoverallshapeis
alwaysthesame.
ARRIintroducedscene-basedencodingfortheir
cameradata,which,becauseofthesimilarityto

WithLogCencoding,thesignallevelincreases
byafixedamountwitheachincreaseofexposure,

advanced,withaninitialimplementationforthe

Viewing and monitoring Log CShootingimagesinLogCdeliversthebestbasisfor
thecolorist'swork,asitprovidesthecamera'sfull
latitudeinanunconfinedcolorspace.Whenviewed
directly,LogCimageslookflatwithdesaturated
colors.TocorrectlydisplayLogCmaterialonanHD
monitor(Rec709)orinadigitalprojection(P3),it
needstobetone-mappedandtransformedintothe
