WHAT IS PODCASTING?
Digital media files, usually released in a series, that are available for download
They usually have RSS feeds attached to them that users can subscribe to so they can see the latest podcast in the series
Podcasting can refer to audio or video files
Podcasts are often downloaded and listened to on an MP3 player

Examples of podcast assignments: Older students write original stories and
podcast them to give to younger students Students use a podcast to describe what
they learned on a school field trip or in class Interviews make great podcasts Students create and then market a new
product via a podcast Students create their own math riddles and
share them via a podcast Instead of a presentation on a topic in front
of the class, the presentation is the podcast

WHAT IS SCREENCASTING
A digital recording of the computer screen, often including audio narration
Sometimes called a video capture or video capturing
Very useful for when you need to show students (or other teachers) how to do a process, like: Use the library catalog or a database Use a certain website Or even do a certain process, like working
through a math problem
WHY SCREENCASTING FOR YOU?
Showing a process rather than telling how to do it can sometimes be more helpful, particularly for students who learn better visually and not through lecture
Can help with repetitiveness – instead of telling a process over and over, maybe a screencast can help?
WHY SCREENCASTING FOR STUDENTS? The same skills they’d use while
podcasting they’d use in screencasting: Planning & research Synthesize & evaluate the information Script writing – introduction, body, conclusion Delivery of the presentation – how do they
get the process across in clear, concise ways?

why it’s your favorite or why others should use it)
How to save something to student files How to use the Ning to write a blog post
BEFORE OUR MEETING
After you make your screencast, post the link to it in a blog post
Blog your experiences about using these screencasting tools
Blog your thoughts about how you could use screencasting for your classes
