A Shot From A Cannon Braden S.

4th quarter.

16 seconds left. Boston Cannons down by 1.

Rabil with the ball. Audience on their feet.

Harvard Stadium erupting. Rabil sprinting around the 2 point arc.

Looking for a shot; can’t find any. They need 2 points to win, but only 1 to tie.

Could be the last opportunity for the Cannons. Their last chance to get to the MLL finals.

8 seconds left.

Defenders breathing down his neck. Still no shots open.

Rabil suddenly takes an inside split dodge. Breaks right past his defender .

Time slows down. Now the audience seems deathly quiet.

He's going for the 2-pointer. Winding up for the crank shot.

Pump-cradle-pump-cradle. Taking the leap. About to shoot.

3 seconds left.

The ball tearing through the air. The bullet so fast it cannot be seen.

Cheering fills up the stadium . And………………………

Whoosh The ball meets the net untouched by the goalie.

Shot was placed perfectly; the goalie's off-stick hip. Game Over.

Cannons have won.

The Freedom Train Braden S.

The great, jet-black iron horse squeals and shrieks. Steam dances out of metal tubes as it hisses to a stop. The heavy air is muggy, is carrying the burdens of the sky. The mercury is still rising, but sweat broke out so long ago. The station is a busy beehive, buzzing and bustling. Slaves hurry to get on the freedom train. These people spent their lives in fields at the mercy of a landlord, Working for no pay, no money, no fair treatment. But these slaves are moving on. They are free, but now free to be who they always were. These people have lives, ambitions, hopes, dreams, and fantasies. They are not property, tools, useless rags, or servants. For some reason, they were treated like trash, But now the world has come to recognize them. So they choose to abandon their old lives-all they used to know. And now they are moving on, starting from the beginning again. A fresh start, a new life, a burning hope for a fair and better world, And they believe this train is the gateway to that new beginning. All hold up their tickets with pride and with strength Because they know that in the end, it's always worth the fight. The conductor stands and punches a single hole into each ticket As they board the train to a new life. Click. Click. Click. The sound of freedom.

My Fire Burns On Braden S. I watch through clouded, cracked, weary eyes, Streets lined with witches and ghosts, Laughing, cheering, screaming, prancing, hopping. Lights dancing. I feel the cold of the outside world against my skin, But I am warm inside my thick brick walls. I have an everlasting furnace burning in my heart, Giving me the little strength that I have to keep going. I have seen the full moon of Hollow's Eve a hundred times. I have stood here for many years, and I am old. My feet, I cannot move; my mouth, I cannot speak. My joints are old and weak, and my limbs sway with the wind. The kids travel towards my many brothers and sisters, But I am the oldest, the smallest, and the weakest. I am grey and dull, while my brothers are vibrant and beautiful. I am forgotten... My brothers feed the kids, With artificial fuel that will burn out quickly. They grab some, then run away Into the night. But I remember…

I remember a time… I remember a time when people would use me. For shelter, for protection, for refuge, for safety, for comfort. I would boast my warm light from the inside out. One hundred years back, to the date, I remember. Streets lined with witches and ghosts, Lights dancing. But I was looking through clean, clear, young eyes. So long ago… Children would come from many streets to visit me. They would look at me in awe. For I was the first of my brothers, and the most beautiful. I remember that time…. But now I am forgotten, Old, dull, faded, and forgotten. The children have forgotten me, My brothers have forgotten me, The world has forgotten me, But my fire burns on.

What Are You Waiting For?

“If you gotta start somewhere, why not here?

If you gotta start sometime, why not now?”*

What do those lines mean to you?

I am about to tell you why I believe that they’re true.

When a situation pops up, I look it right in the eye.

I have three options- to give up, or to try and to try.

Now those are the first two, one wrong and one great,

But here is the third- the “I’m just gonna wait”

I don’t like waiting, because waiting shouts NO!

The words “maybe next time” instead of “let’s go!”

What do you expect while you rock in your chair?

For chances and easy paths to pop out and be there?

No! You say, “Now is the time to begin my great feat!

And whatever it takes, I won’t ever retreat!”

So this is what that quotation means to me.

Did this help you see what you could possibly be?

“If you gotta start somewhere, I say here.

If you gotta start sometime, I say now.”*

Today is the Day

Why panic about tomorrow when today is on your shoulders? Focus on the moment, cause the moment is now.

Yesterday is gone, Tomorrow will come,

But today is here and now.
