“To build a library is to create a life. It is never just a random collection of books.” -Carlos Maria Dominguez

Friends of the Library Membership Drive
Becky Hutson and her Friends of the Library are always on the
lookout for new ways to help us out at the HSC Library. From
buying New Years Baby Books, helping fund our Movie Nights,
the Summer Reading Program, to orchestrating the Spring and
Fall Book Sales. It is the beginning cycle of the
FOL membership Drive and all are welcome to participate!
Membership forms are available to pick up at the Library and
can be turned back in at the front desk, OR you can call Becky
with questions regarding membership: (307) 864-3028
Book Club
Book Club will be meeting on November 16th at 7 PM. The book
discussion will center on Charles Dickens’ 13th Novel, “Great Ex-
pectations.” As the name would suggest, many of the major
themes in this classic revolve around ambition. Regarded as one
of Dickens’ “grotesque tragicomic” pieces, “Great Expectations”
pits comedy against tragedy and, although darker moods domi-
nate the text, there are touching moments with light hearted com-
edy to allow a complex plot.
UPCOMING EVENTS
Story Time - Wednesdays and Thursdays @ 10:30am.
Lego Club will meet the first and third Fridays @ 3:30pm.
Dinner and a Movie Thursday November 9th @ 6:00pm.
Library Closed Nov. 11th
Book Club November 16th
No Story-Time November 22nd or 23rd
Library Closed November 23rd, 24th, and 25th for Thanksgiving
Plan to join us for Dinner and a Movie
November 9th, at 6:00 PM.
This month we will be showing “Sands of Iwo Jima” starring John
Wayne and John Agar and Forrest Tucker.
This classic World War II actioner has Wayne as a tough but
compassionate Marine Corps sergeant, John M. Stryker.
Stryker's job is to turn a bunch of raw recruits into a fighting
machine. His no-holds-barred approach causes a great amount
of friction with he supporting roles of those who hate Stryker's
guts -and who are inevitably won over- are played handsomely
by John Agar and Forrest Tucker.
STORYTIME NEWS!

We have more new DVDs available for checkout this month, thanks to a gener-
ous donation. There are children’s movies, comedies, dramas and more. Be

~Library at Thebes, inscription over the door
Story time has been just as busy as ever and Miss Sandy has been taking the kids on some
wonderful fall adventures! A huge thank you goes out to the members of our awesome
community that helped make October such a fun month. Trick-or-treating was a blast and
it’s always fun to see the children in their costumes. To everyone at the Assessors office,
Clerks office, Treasures office, Clerk of Courts office,
Public Heath, Thermop PD, and Central Bank &
Trust— thank you for being so interactive with the
children on our trip. Another thank you goes to the
Hessenthaler’s for helping the library supply each of
our kiddos with their own pumpkin (some bigger
than the kids themselves!)

“Here was one place where I could find out who I was and what I

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY BOOK SALE !
A huge thank you goes to Becky Hutson and the
Friends of the Library! We at the Library are grateful to
have such a wonderful community willing to come together
to help support the betterment of our facilities!
The Friends of the Library Book Sale went very well. The pre-sales on Fridays seem to really boost their profits. This is such an anticipated event. Patrons and locals talk about it for weeks until the date arrives. It truly brings our community together. However, please note that the Friends are trying to downsize the amount of books they have, so be particular on what you donate. Musty, old, crumbly, damaged, and out of date nonfiction should not be considered. It’s OK, we promise, to pitch or recycle these items. We promise.
Happy fall to all,
In the month of October we welcomed our newest member to our team, Megan Kraushaar! She
will be our front desk helper and all around Girl Friday. She is knowledgeable about computers,
technology, social-media, energetic and creative. I am very lucky to have her. She has lived most
of her young life in Thermopolis but spent a little time in Cheyenne attending LCCC. Please stop
by and say hello to Megan!
I would also like to take the time to just say thank you to our faithful patrons who visit us daily,
weekly, and monthly. We are like a family and just know that you are missed when you are gone
or don’t show up at your usual time. The library is for everyone to enjoy and take advantage of.
The library is a leveling field so that no one is better or above anyone else. Once we are here, we
are one. Just people being people and taking advantage of an opportunity that is truly American.
