Objectives:Students will learn what Haiku, Cinquain, and Acrostic poems are. Students will read examples of poetry.
Students will understand figurative language to interpret poetry.
Students will write an example of each type of poetry.

There are many different types of poetry. We will concentrate on 4 in this
presentation
WHAT IS A HAIKU?A Japanese poem of seventeen syllables, in three lines
of five, seven, and five.

Time to make your own haikus! First, use the 2 generators. Write your haikus in your reading notebook. Then, write your own from scratch and put it in your notebook.

Haiku Activity
What is a limerick? A kind of humorous verse of five lines, in which the first, second, and fifth lines rhyme with each other, and the third and fourth lines, which are shorter, form a rhymed couplet.

What is Free Verse Poetry?
