This affects Latino society because judgement is based further then their exterior. Skin color implies a person’s education level income, ideology and their cultural characteristics. Individuals who resemble European Hispanics are thought to have higher education and corresponding political ideals.

The narrator Nick Carraway describes his neighbor’s fancy house when he is invited to a party in the early chapters of the novel. "I believe that on the first night I went to Gatsby's house I was one of the few guests who had actually been invited. People were not invited--they went there." Nick stating that the individuals who attended the party were not even invited this shows how luxurious Gatsby’s parties were that the guests who attended were not friends but simply a random assortment of people he may or may not have even known.
