Northern Diver has been established for over 40 years.

We manufacture drysuits and associated equipment for sport, commercial, military and rescue applications around the world. We are a prime contractor to the British Ministry of Defence.

When it comes to rescue, we currently supply over 200 organisations across the UK and overseas.

As well as manufacturing and stocking a wide range of rescue drysuits and equipment, which are available for immediate delivery in an emergency, we can manufacture bespoke drysuits and other items to your requirements.

Designed For You.Front Entry SuitsFront entry is the most common surface drysuit zip position on the market. This design makes entering the drysuit simple and assistance free. The zip runs diagonally from the left shoulder to the waist on the right hand side.

We can modify these drysuits to match your requirements, for example fabric, colour, relief zips, embellishments, seal types, pockets and footwear.

Wading Drysuit.For Rescue & Response A rescue suit designed for use in the most demanding conditions, ideal for rescue and emergency response teams conducting any type of marine based rescue, whether it be a swift water rescue in a flooding situation or an offshore rescue.

Designed For You.Rear Entry SuitsRear entry drysuits are very popular. Our first diving drysuit, manufactured in the 1970s, had this zip position.

Rear entry zips run between the shoulders and are preferred by those who want the zip in a more convenient location. Assistance is needed to close the zip.

Membrane Suit.Arctic Survivor Designed to deliver great value and all-round performance.

The drysuit has a nylon outer and features integrated oversized knee and seat protection and our acclaimed rugged hard sole boots. Securing the suit is a YKK® Aquaseal® zip, protected by a zip flap with hook and loop fastening tabs.

The Arctic Survivor can be worn in conjunction with numerous thermal garments or combinations of thermal garments.

Our high performance inflation and exhaust valves can be fitted in any positions to make it suitable for diving as well.

A zipped transporter pocket and a hook and loop fastening bellows pocket are fitted as standard. Pocket positions can be customised on request, along with a host of other drysuit elements. The suit is supplied with a bag, hood, hose and maintenance kit.

Initially, your appointed contact will work with you to establish your needs.

Depending on your preference, we can visit you, you can visit us, or we can simply communicate by telephone or email.

Our design team will then work to ensure every detail is covered perfectly.

You will receive a copy of the drysuit design to check.

Only when you are happy with the design will the sample manufacturing process begin.

The drysuits will be made within an agreed time frame and delivered to you. After test and evaluation, volume production will commence.

Specialist Drysuit.Storm Force 4 (F4) Our Storm Force 4 (F4) is the breathable tri-laminate drysuit that evolved from our popular Storm Surface Drysuit fitted with BDM metal zip and supplied in a drawstring bag.

The stock models have neoprene neck and wrist seals, with heavy-duty latex dry socks, designed to be used with any Northern Diver boot or similar in-water footwear.

High visibility reflective printing is located in various positions on each style of suit. This is an essential safety feature, especially if the drysuit will be used at night, in poor light conditions or with impaired visibility.

Specialist Wading Suits.2 Piece Flood Suit The 2 Piece Flood Suit has been specially developed with UK rescue teams for low level flooding, wading, pumping operations and mud rescue.

This flexible suit is designed to offer a good level of waterproof protection. The two piece design gives the user choice on how the suit is worn, depending on the climate and applications.

Specialist Drysuits.Responder Suit The Responder drysuit is made for the first responders to an incident.

It is suitable for medium duty applications, such as bank searches and wading.

Manufactured from a medium membrane fabric. This drysuit is not intended for heavy duty applications.

The suit has been tested in various rescue applications. It is in service with many rescue organisations around the UK, used as an alternative to drysuits when they are not absolutely necessary.

Specialist.Transit SuitsFor Windfarm & Offshore Use.

Made to meet the demands of the Offshore Industry . . .

The SOLAS approved Transit Suit is designed for transit by boat on water, for example when travelling to a windfarm to commence work. The suit also performs well for similar on-water activity where warmth and protection from the water are essential.

The suit’s material is waterproof and it features super-soft neck and wrist seals to protect from water sprays, splashes and falling into the water.

A host of useful features complement this rugged suit, including Kevlar® reinforcement, an integrated hood, a comfortable adjustable collar, multiple pockets with different functions, a snap hook and a pee-less whistle.

Flexi-Light sticks can be purchased separately to fit inside the Transit Suits removable right arm pocket.

Specialist Suits.Flotation Suit

Our Flotation Suit is a versatile garment that is suitable for various tasks performed near water when keeping warm and protection from the water are essential.

The suit is manufactured from a waterproof breathable membrane and has adjustable anti-flush straps on the wrists and ankles. If the user falls into the water, the suit will provide buoyancy (50N) and protection against cold water shock and hypothermia. It is suitable for use in temperatures ranging from -40°C to 10°C.

When the suit is worn, comfortable cuff and neck areas, ventilation points and a high performance wicking lining ensure it remains comfortable.

Our Flotation Suit is available in a choice of colours. Subject to order quantity, we can also manufacture bespoke suits to your requirements.

Sizing.Wetsuit Guide

Please take measurements over bare body when measuring for your wetsuit, accurate measurements are essential for a good fitting suit.

If you wish to speak in person you are more than welcome at Northern Diver HQ. There is always a team of friendly, experienced staff ready to assist with what ever you may require.

1. Height: to be measured against a wall, look forwards and make sure the back of your head and heels are touching the wall, your back must be flat against the wall.

2. Chest: taken around the fullest part, just under your nipple and measure around the torso while keeping the tape parallel to the floor.

3. Waist: taken around a relaxed waist, about a 1/2 inch above your belly button, exhale and measure before inhaling again.

4. Hips: taken across the widest part of your hips/buttocks. Measure all the way around while keeping the tape parallel to the floor

5. Crotch To Ankle: up in the crotch down to ankle

6. Weight: to be taken on accurate scales

PFDs are supplied as standard with reflective encapsulated panels but you can order customised panels with your choice of logos and branding.

Customers must contact us to request this service. A range of encapsulated panel sizes are available and they are supplied with a Velcro backing that fits securely in place on any of our PFD range. Encapsulated panels can also be added to drysuits.

Supplied with a 60g CO2 inflation cylinder, the Northern Diver Arctic Survivor 275N life jacket is a high performance device for offshore use and severe environmental conditions, when maximum protection is required or where heavy waterproof clothing is being worn.

This life jacket helps prevent drowning of those who cannot help themselves, for example if they are unconscious.

This item cannot be guaranteed to self right in all instances an unconscious user wearing heavy waterproofs or clothing. During tests it has been proved to self right in the vast majority of cases.

This life jacket has been designed in consultation with rescue training organisations responsible for training the emergency services. It can be customised with logos.

Life Jacket & PFDs.Size Guides

Life Jackets should fit snugly without being too tight. The term the Coast Guard uses is “comfortably snug”. If you can’t make your life jacket fit snugly, then it’s too big. If you can’t comfortably put it on and fasten it, it’s too small.

PFDsChest/bust - measure horizontally under the armpits and around the fullest part of your chest and shoulder blades.

What is the difference between a life jacket and a buoyancy vest?

Buoyancy aids cannot be guaranteed to turn an unconscious body over and it will not support your body in the water. Life jackets, if properly worn and in good condition, are designed to keep your airways clear of water, even if you are unconscious or injured.

Weight - it is recommended that you wear all the gear you intend to be using with the PFD.

1. Loosen all straps/buckles can put the PFD on. Do up any front buckles (not including the chest harness)2. Tighten all the straps from the waist and then work up from there. Finish with the shoulder straps3. Feed the chest harness webbing through the quick release cam buckle (metal load spreader must be used), close buckle tightly and store any excess web-bing away.

Note: chest harness should be trimmed to reduce the amount of excess webbing. Trimmed harness must be cut a max. of 15cm from the red line shown.Visit our website or contact us for more information.

A compact, durable andlightweight helmet, certified to EN 12492 (working at height).

Inside the Ele V8’s ABS outer shell there’s an EPS foam lining and removable cushioning to keep you comfortable. Handily, the cushioning is removable and washable. Furthermore, ten ventilation points feature on the helmet, all of which are protected with mesh to prevent dirt etc. from entering. The vents also allow water to flow through the helmet when it’s used in water.

HELMET SIZING

Take a soft measuring tape and wrap it around your head about 1 inch above your eyebrows and ears. For example, if you measure the circumference of your head and it is 56cm, you will wear a 56cm helmet or Medium (55-58cm) depending on the helmet’s size scale.

After you receive your helmet put it on. The helmet should feel snug. A properly fitting helmet needs to be snug all the way around your head so that it doesn’t move around. You don’t want any excess space between the helmet and your head. Be careful to pay attention to any pressure or pain points.

With the helmet on your head, shake your head around. If the helmet moves on its own or shakes separately from your head, it’s too big. Use your hand and move the helmet to the left and right, up and down. The skin of your head should move with the helmet without the helmet shifting on its own. You can choose to buckle the helmet at this point if you wish, but it will not impact the fit of the actual helmet, just keep the helmet on your head.

Is the helmet too tight? If your head is feeling squeezed or doesn’t fit all the way onto your head, then your helmet is too tight. You should be able to wear your helmet comfortably all day.

The name Flexi-Light indicates you can bend the light around objects. Unlike chemical light sticks, the user decides when to turn the Flexi-Light stick on or off. Replacing chemical light sticks with reusable Flexi-Light sticks can add up to a significant cost saving at the end of the year.

Flexi-Light sticks are offered in five colours and Infrared. The colour coded marker at the end allows the user to quickly identify the light colour.

High intensity light sticks burn brighter and faster than traditional glow sticks. These Flexi-Light sticks are up to three times brighter than standard glow sticks and are waterproof and depth tested, they are non-sparking and non-heat producing.

Reach Poles The reach pole provides a rapid, agile method to reach a conscious in-water casualty. The pole can equally be used to retrieve items from the water.

The pole’s maximum length is a considerable six metres, and the lightweight, durable fibreglass makes it very easy to operate at such a length. The pole’s fully retracted length is a compact 1.8 metres.

Pole sections cannot be fully separated, each section has a clamp that unlocks a section and enables easy adjustment for fast extraction and retraction.

On the tip of the pole is an aluminium bayonet fitting for use with the poles quick-release accessories.

DRY SEAL ROLL TOP BAGSOur latest range of roll top dry bags have been manufactured from a strong, high quality 420D TPU which is durable, flexible and available in colours red and black. Other colours may be available to order, you must contact us to discuss particular specifications and personalization of bags.

These dry bags have a secure 100% watertight closure, the dry seal creates a vacuum like seal that will not let water in. It’s so strong, it takes some practice, and has instructions for use provided, simply press the dry seal together for an extremely strong closure. Users are advised not to force the bags open as they have a very tight, completely leak-proof closure, incorrect opening could compromise the seal.

All bags are fitted with an air purge valve to help compress kit inside and make sealing even easier. Each bag is also supplied with an adjustable shoulder strap which can be quickly removed and stored inside the bag when not needed. The kits include equipment for use in an immediate first aid situation, equipment and drugs that may be used by personnel with advanced medical training such as a dive medic.

Designed to include items that would be commonly used in an emergency situation during diving operations in a remote location the kits are an essential component at a dive site.

We can also provide an inspection and replenishment service for DMAC kits to ensure that all items are safe to use and within expiry dates.

Northern Diver throw bags contain a length of specialist rope and can be thrown out to an in-water casualty so that they can be pulled to safety if they are conscious and able to assist.

Search & Rescue Training Manikin

Ideal for Police dive teams training to recover bodies from inland waterways and from under ice. A variant of the Man Overboard manikin but is designed to sink instead of float. Extensively used by Police Forces and Fire Services across the UK, USA Coastguard.

The tough nylon mesh carcass allows the water to penetrate quickly when submerged and drain on recovery. Strong webbing loop at the back allows easy handling, storage and suspension for drying. Realistic facial features and wig enable identification by touch in poor visibility.

This manikin was designed in consultation with Surf Life Saving Australia as a water rescue dummy for IRB Racing, IRB driver training and tube rescue practice. It is also suitable for jet ski rescue training and other general water rescue scenarios. Extensively used by Surf Life Saving Australia and IRM Racing Teams.

Arms are built aloft to simulate a live volunteer. Bright orange overalls and SOLAS reflective tape on the head make this manikin highly visible in open water. Durable PVC sleeves on the lower leg to reduce drag during extraction and strips running from the shoulders to knees allow flexibility in and out of water but prevent the manikin from being too ‘floppy’.

Ideal for man overboard search and rescue exercises in the open ocean, streams, lakes or other inland waterways. Extensively used by UK Ministry of Defence Army and Navy. RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution). All UK Fire & Rescue Services, Offshore operators, Coastguards & Lifeguards, Inland Water Rescue Teams, Shipping & Fishing industries.

RR2.2.6m Water Rescue SledThe perfect water rescue craft for use in rivers; flooded urban/coastal areas, mountains and lakes.

The RR2 Rescue Sled is lightweight and portable, both inflated and deflated. It is easy to manoeuvre and can be paddled, pulled by hand or towed by a jet ski, boat or small hovercraft.

The RR2 Rescue Sled was developed as a casualty transfer system for use in shallows and mud. The unit handles extremely well in accessing areas that rescue boats cannot reach, providing a stable working platform for marine rescue. the unit is easily towed, paddled or line transferred and packs down to a small, easy to handle size making a versatile and effective system.

Further developments of the RR2 Rescue Sled led to trials in conjunction with Swift Water Rescue techniques. The Swift Water system allows the sled to quickly access rescue situations in fast flows of water.

The sled has been used operationally with jet skis and fast rescue craft for the recovery of casualties. When clipped to the side of a fast rescue craft or pontoon, the sled will act as a platform enabling easy recovery of secured casualties, swimmers or divers. A variety of stretchers can be located on top of the sled and used with a four-point lifting harness.

Two sleds can be joined together with a twining rig providing a very stable platform with casualty access between the hulls. Twinned sleds operated with two rescue personnel make high-risk rescue situations a safer option. The innovative properties of the unit’s design allows it to be applied to other hazardous environments including ice, snow or wetlands.

Manufactured from 15cm drop stitch and PVC with built in inflation points and valves in multiple places. The RR-MAX has 13 316 stainless steel 40mm d-rings, 5 lifting handles plus another 4 handles on the non-slip floor.

Designed For You.Rescue Life BoardEasy to transport and set up, lightweight and super strong, our inflatable rescue board is for use when the casualty is conscious and able to hold on to the board.

Towed behind a personal water craft (PWC), the board can reach the casualty in a quick, agile manner, which is pivotal in swift/rough water rescue scenarios.

In calmer conditions, the board can be used to swim out to the casualty, rather than with a PWC, and can be used to carry the casualty to safety with the rescuer swimming and pushing the board.

Contact us if this is not quite your spec, subject to order quantities we can alter the size, shape, amount of handles and amount of D-rings. The board is also available in Hypalon rather than PVC.

Inflatable.10m Rescue Tubes The Inflatable Rescue Tube is a first response solution for water rescue and invaluable in situations where the casualty is conscious and able to assist.

The system can be deployed in numerous ways during a rescue operation, depending on the prevailing conditions.

On flowing water, the inflated tube can be positioned at an angle across the flow to provide a buoyant lifeline for waterborne casualties. The angled tube aids water rescue by allowing a safe, controlled route to safety.

The tube can be directed from a safe land position towards a conscious casualty. The tube wraps around the casualty and secures. It can then be pulled back to land with the casualty.

The tube is easy to carry into remote locations i.e. mountain tarns and gorges.

Northern Diver’s headquarters are located in Appley Bridge, Lancashire, UK. Our team of 40 staff are spread across various departments in our specially designed building, which includes a showroom, offices, bonded warehouse and repairs, alterations, engineering and testing divisions.

Our main far east production facility is located in China, just over the border from Hong Kong. It employs 200 people, is ISO 9001 approved and has a laboratory for materials and product testing. Our Hong Kong-based quality engineer visits the facility on a regular basis, as do our staff. The blue areas of the map show countries supplied by Northern Diver.
