What is it about? The Police Youth Enhancement Program (PYEP) is an initiative developed and run by the Ballarat Police Proactive Unit. PYEP is aimed at enhancing community engagement by supporting and empowering young people. PYEP offers and empowers participants to learn important skills and create opportunities to engage with their communities. How does it work? Young people who choose to take part in PYEP will plan, organise, manage and coordinate two community events within in a 12 month period. PYEP participants will meet with program coordinators monthly at the Ballarat West Police Station of an evening to plan & coordinate the events. The program will commence in early June 2019 and run for the duration of a year. A community family “Cricket for Causes” Super 7’s event is a confirmed event to be held in February 2020 and the other event will be determined by the youth participants and the coordinators. Why should you participate? The Police Youth Enhancement Program (PYEP) offers unique opportunities for young people to build skills in the following areas: event management entrepreneurship communications goal-setting decision-making leadership permit and grant applications public speaking initiative exploration / creation prospectus creation marketing sponsorship management social media Participants will have the opportunity to network and develop friendships. How much does it cost?The program will be offered at no cost to successful applicants.

Who can apply?Applications are open to young people aged 14-24yrs. PYEP is looking for participants who demonstrate the following:• Enthusiasm • Team orientated• Respectful • Positive attitude

How to apply?Applicants need to submit a resume of no more than a A4 page length expressing their interest. Applicants aged 14-17yrs need to have the consent of their parents/carers or guardians. Applicant selection will be done through a collaborative process involving the Ballarat Police Proactive Unit and Youth engagement leaders within the community.

POLICE YOUTH ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International AwardPYEP participants will also have the opportunity to complete The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (Duke of Ed). Duke of Ed and PYEP are closely aligned with similar goals and objectives. Participants will have to complete tasks within the below four coloured categories to receive their Duke of Ed Award.

Participants will record their work and commitment (e.g. attendance at meetings) in an Online Record Book. For more information, visit www.dukeofed.com.au
