Programme Objectives Upon completion of the programme, students should be able to : • Communicate effectively in written and spoken forms as well as perform IT, numerical and soft skill-based tasks effectively on broadly- defined surveying activities so that they can work independently as an individual, and as a member or leader in the workplace; • Reflect on personal learning needs and construct a personal development plan for employment and/or further study upon learning experience gained throughout the programme; • Undertake and manage projects, including site investigation, feasibility studies and design proposals, planning, project delivery and site supervision in surveying and related settings; Perform duties in the workplace professionally and ethically according to the guidelines of The Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors and other relevant local practices; • Prepare and evaluate preliminary cost estimating, cost planning, tender documents and contract documents and negotiate contract prices; • Undertake construction measurements in different trades and work sections of building works, civil engineering works and building services works; • Evaluate the choices and characteristics of the construction materials in line with the designs, functions, processes and technologies of specific buildings in relation to the Building Regulations and Codes of Practice; • Analyze the trend of construction economics to formulate a viable infrastructure and property investment plan with possible sources of finance, and prepare cash flow forecasts and implement cost control over projects; Apply techniques and deal with problems in planning, designing, management, monitoring, and resolving the disputes such as mediation and arbitration in construction projects; and • Apply a wide range of IT applications such as Building Information Modeling software to support and enhance quantity surveying works in taking off quantities in terms of construction projects of different trades. Programme Features • Taught by local practitioners in the surveying fields and supported by links with industry. Graduates are eligible to apply for admission to “BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying” offered by the University College of Estate Management (UCEM) with 120 credit exemption (out of a total of 360 credits).
