Policy & Donor Forum

The Decade of Action Policy & Donor Forum will address the role of road safety and sustainable transportation in contributing to shared goals for sustainable development, particularly in the context of the forthcoming “Rio+20” UN Conference on Sustainable Development, as well as focusing on the investment case for funding global road traffic injury prevention.

The Donor Forum supports the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 and provides an opportunity for organizations and companies that are contributing to road traffic injury prevention to share knowledge and experiences and build new partnerships. The event also enables potential new donors to learn more about this global movement working to save five million lives on the world’s roads by 2020.

The meeting will hear from a range of perspectives, including high level international policymakers and academics, philanthropies, the corporate sector and NGO leaders working in the frontline of the road injury epidemic.

POLICY & DONORFORUM 2012

The Rio+20 policy opportunity

As the world debates future sustainable development goals ahead of the UN ‘Rio+20’ Conference in June 2012, how do we ensure safe road transport is part of the policy outcome? Ministers, development bankers, activists and urban planners explore ‘safer roads at Rio+20’.

The investment case for road safety

The international community invests in tackling childhood diseases, but can we do more to prevent deaths and injuries as children grow and become more independent? Road crashes are the leading cause of death for children above the age of 10, worldwide. Donors discuss the case for investing, and showcase cost-effective initiatives proven to save lives.

Decade of Action Awards Luncheon

Presentation by HRH Prince Michael of Kent GCVO of his International Road Safety Awards, including the announcement of the 2012 Prince Michael Decade of Action Award.

The Guest of Honour will be Hon. Michael R. Bloomberg, Mayor of New York City
