It all began in the early 90’s in Sibiu, when Ilie Vonica opened a small clinic in an apartment together with a few colleagues, thus trying to offer his patients a via-ble alternative to the public health care system. Shortly, Clinica Polisano became only a segment of the first pri-vate integrated group of medical services, as the spec-trum of services includes a chain of clinics disposing of their own laboratories in Sibiu and Bucharest, private hospitals, in-vitro fertilization centers, a pharmacy net-work and drug production.

The mission of Radiology and Imagistics Center is to deal with and treat medical problems using the fastest and most accurate diagnostics methods, which are also the least invasive and radiation free processes. A fully integrated, 3DCRT (3D conformal radiation therapy) and IMRT system, the TomoTherapy System is designed to provide each patient with highly accurate, quality individualized treatment using daily CT imaging and optimized beamlet-based delivery. The system’s unique helical design enables it to treat a broader range of tumors, expanding radiation therapy options for more patients.

With the TomoTherapy Treatment Planning System, treatments are prescribed and plans optimized based on diagnostic CT and anatomical structure data that includes the specified dosimetric goals and constraints. Three-dimensional dose distributions and dose-volume histograms (DVHs) are available as analytical tools to either accept or modify—and re-optimize—the planned dose.

Escaping the confines of conventional radiation treatment devices developed more than a half century ago, the TomoTherapy® System design combines CT imaging with a radiation treatment delivery system. With this unique design, the TomoTherapy System enables efficient daily 3D CT imaging to ensure the accuracy of the patient position before each treatment delivery and leverages the ring geometry to then deliver state-of-the-art radiation treatments, including intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and 3D conformal radiation therapy (3DCRT). Radiation delivered by the TomoTherapy System is aided by its sophisticated multi-leaf collimator (MLC), a patented device that opens and closes quickly to permit, or block, the passage of radiation, dividing the radiation beams into many smaller beamslets. The patterns of movement is precisely calculated before treatment begins, so the intensity of the radiation beam delivered conforms to the patient’s tumor and helps avoid critical structures as the machine rotates 360 degrees around the patient.
